Reacher Season 3 finale could not have been more intense, with the Paulie v/s Reacher fight being a major highlight. It is a face-off we all knew would happen eventually but the brutality of the duel is something that will probably catch you off-guard.
The moment Reacher said "leave him to me", it became evident that he would go in full force, doing justice to Lee Child's titular hero—known not just for his strength and resilience but also a pure heart. Meanwhile, in real life, it seems taking on an antagonist of such measure was also not easy for Alan Ritchson.
The star told Entertainment Weekly, saying:
"I got picked up and we worked out the camera thing a few times and he slammed me through the table so hard, I went through it into the seventh circle of hell."
Alan Ritchson almost got knocked out while shooting that intense Reacher Season 3 finale scene
Filming the Reacher Season 3 finale fight scene with Olivier Richters aka Paulie was one of the toughest tasks handled by Alan Ritchson in the third chapter. It reportedly took close to a month to shoot the entire thing and all the while, he felt life "was a hoot". He further mentioned:
"The whole point is you just watch Reacher get ragdolled for five minutes straight."
As per Entertainment Weekly, Ritchson refused to use a stunt double for the duel and wanted to do it himself, despite being aware of the risks. He wanted the sequences to be as original as possible and according to his statements, Ritchson reportedly told the crew:
"I want the audience to know that I'm doing this for us. I'm taking one for Reacher and we're all in this together."
According to the outlet, there were some on-set clashes between Alan Ritchson and the creative team, who wanted to make sure of the star's safety. However, one particular scene in the filming did take a toll on him. It is that scene in Season 3 finale where Ritchson gets 'slammed' right through furniture quite a few times.
He was reportedly unconscious for a long time and when he came back to his senses, Ritchson shared the feeling of satisfaction he felt for delivering what exactly that fight scene demanded. However, addressing the shot's intensity, Alan Ritchson further added:
"It was the worst few minutes of my life."
