"In a kind of fun way": 1923 stars explain how Alexandra might make her return to the upcoming Yellowstone spin-off

Season 2 of Paramount Plus’s 1923 ended on a heartbreaking note when Alexandra (played by Julia Schlaepfer) bid farewell to the hit show in the most tragic way. However, two stars of the drama series teased that the audiences may not have seen the last of Alexandra, especially with the upcoming prequel to Yellowstone titled 1944 in the works.

Schlaepfer and Brandon Sklenar, who portrays Spencer Dutton, spoke to ScreenRant about Alexandra’s fate. Sklenar quipped,

“Right now, I'm just trying to lobby for Jules (Schlaepfer) to be a ghost… She can haunt Spencer in the most beautiful way. Not like a spooky, scary kind of way, but in a kind of fun way.”

Schlaepfer chimed in,

“She'll play a lot of pranks.”

Skelnar added,

“ Yeah, a lot of pranks. A lot of whisper banter. But, yeah, I'd do it. I'd do it, for sure. If there was a 1944[series], Spencer's definitely alive. He'd be in his fifties, so I could just spend the next four months outside, and that'd probably help.”

1923 is the prequel to Yellowstone, which is set against the backdrop of the early 20th century. Duttons are met with challenges that arise from the repercussions of the Great Depression. The series stars Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren, Brandon Sklenar, Julia Schlaepfer, Isabel May, and Timothy Dalton, among others. 1923 was created and written by Taylor Sheridan.

What happened to Alexandra in 1923?

Alexandra had been looking for her husband, Spencer Dutton. In the final episode of Season 2, Alexandra and Spencer finally meet near the frozen Montana train tracks. Alexandra is already freezing to death when Spencer runs to her. He learns that his wife is pregnant.

Spencer helps her aboard the train, but she is suffering from severe frostbite. Alexandra gives birth to their premature son. She, however, passes away after giving birth, holding baby John with Spencer next to her.

Can Alexandra come back to the Yellowstone universe?

The Yellowstone prequel 1944 is expected to take off years after the events of 1923. Though there is no other update on the casting or the storyline, Schlaepfer and Skelnar’s enthusiasm for the character’s return could indicate a possible appearance. We're waiting and excited to see how the makers will take the Dutton family saga forward.
