Saturday Night Live cast member Kenan Thompson is giving his opinion on the country music star Morgan Wallen’s abrupt exit from the sketch comedy show’s March 29 episode. The episode was hosted by actress Mikey Madison and Wallen appeared as the musical guest, performing two tracks from his upcoming album, I’m The Problem.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kenan Thompson reflected on Wallen’s hasty exit after the show ended. He said,
“I thought maybe he had to go to the potty or something.”
Thompson was earlier contemplating what led to Wallen’s hurried departure and said,
“I don't know what goes through people's minds when they decide to do stuff like that. I don't know if he understood the assignment or not, or if he was really feeling a certain kind of way.”

Thompson was referring to Wallen rushing off the live show stage after Madison said goodbye to the audience and thanked the country star. Wallen saluted the audience, said a few words to Madison, hugged her, and walked off the stage in the direction of the camera.
What made this situation stand out was the fact that the rest of the cast usually remains on the stage as the end credits roll. So, while the camera remained on the rest of the cast members hugging each other with the band in the background, Wallen had already exited the space.
Alluding to the general atmosphere after an episode of SNL, Kenan Thompson said,
“It's definitely a spike in the norm. We’re so used to everybody just turning around and high-fiving us, everybody's saying, 'Good job, good job, good job.' So when there's a departure from that, it's like, hmm, I wonder what that's about?”
Kenan Thompson’s reaction to Morgan Wallen’s Instagram story
Speculation around Wallen’s sudden departure was compounded by the Instagram story put up by the singer after he left the SNL stage. TMZ noted that Wallen had posted an image of what appeared to be his private jet on the runway, writing,
“Get me to God’s country”

TMZ also reported that one of the SNL writers, Josh Patten, referred to Wallen’s story when he himself put up an image of a Krispy Kreme donut truck with its back door wide open to his Instagram stories, giving the image the same caption as Wallen’s.
Patten wasn’t the only one from the SNL cast and crew who responded to Wallen’s Instagram story. Kenan Thompson, in his conversation with Entertainment Weekly, also spoke about Wallen’s caption, saying,
“The 'God's country' of it all is strange because it's like, what are you trying to say? You trying to say that we are not in God's country? We're not all in God's country? We're not all under God's umbrella? That's not necessarily my favorite”
What does Morgan Wallen’s sudden exit mean?
Kenan Thompson provided some context to Wallen’s sudden exit after the SNL episode ended. He shared that Wallen’s abrupt departure stood out and was noticed by everyone. Kenan Thomson, in his conversation with Entertainment Weekly, said,
"And it was already such a small grouping on the stage anyway. So it was just like, oh wow, that was pretty visible. You know what I'm saying? It was a pretty visible thing.”
TMZ quoted sources from SNL, which insisted, however, that Wallen’s exit wasn’t unusual, and they look forward to having the country singer back on the show sometime in the future. As per the sources, Wallen watched the entire show on Saturday and had even attended the dress rehearsal previously.
As for now, Morgan Wallen hasn’t responded to the SNL exit, and is gearing up for the impending release of his album, I’m The Problem.
