The first three episodes of House of David are available to stream on Prime Video. The three episodes that began streaming on the OTT platform on February 27, 2025, set the tone for a promising biblical epic revolving around the life of David. Created by Jon Erwin, it stars Michael Iskander as the titular character, Stephen Lang as Samuel, and surprisingly, Daredevil's Ayelet Zurer as Queen Ahinoam.
House of David tracks the journey of David, a young shepherd, as he becomes a hero of the people. The show narrates the story of how he will go on to become the new king and even features him defeating the giant Goliath. Creator Jon Erwin had an interesting comparison for the historical/mythical drama. He said:
"I think it is a bit like Game of Thrones."
What did Jon Erwin say about the Prime Video series House of David?
Creator Jon Erwin and actor Michael Iskander, who plays David, spoke in depth about the biblical series. Between those two, Jon Erwin had an interesting parallel for the Prime Video series that people will consider watching. According to Erwin, House of David shares a few similarities with HBO's beloved fantasy series Game of Thrones. He explained this comparison by saying:
"The drama of a boy chosen to be king by this prophet, in a nation that had a king. ... That is instant dramatic tension. And it is a battle over this throne, and who is man's choice? Who is God's choice? So it does have some of those same story drivers."
The creator also revealed that he feels that the story of David functions as a blueprint for countless stories loved by people. He said:
"Whether it's Luke Skywalker or Harry Potter, Frodo ... the classic hero's journey, in many ways ... has its roots, at least somewhat, in the life of David 3,000 years ago."
On the other hand, Michael Iskander was asked how he prepared for the role of David. Iskander's response to this question was:
"I always found myself going to ... the Bible, and just really delving into who David was as a person. What is his character? What is he ultimately seeking in life? And what are the things that got him to where he was?"
While discussing his preparation for the role, the actor also spoke about his personal life. He revealed that his family background and prior experience as an actor in Broadway musicals helped get into the skin of David, a musician. Iskander said:
"I knew that whoever would play David would have to sing the Psalms in Hebrew because it has to be in the original language. It has to be on a lyre. It has to be with that Eastern ornamentation. I had a bit of experience in that. I grew up in Egypt. I know what that music sounds like."
House of David is currently streaming on Prime Video. The eighth and final episode will stream on the OTT platform on April 3, 2025.
