The Challenge 40 player Josh Martinez is no more a part of the show and was eliminated in episode 14 despite having strong alliances and friends. He was up against Cory, whom he considered family, but Cory had some resentment towards Josh. Cory believed that Josh did not stand up for those he called friends, and the moment Cory got a chance to do one-on-one with Josh, he took it all out in the elimination arena.
Josh has expressed skepticism regarding the claims made about his relationship with Cory, especially after his elimination from the show. He recently appeared on Johnny Bananas's podcast, "Death, Taxes, Bananas," where he discussed his relationship with Cory and shared how their storyline unfolded during the show.
When Bananas pointed out that Cory has been someone who "has never taken a shot for somebody else" and mentioned that Josh told Cory during the Semi-Truck challenge that he was like a family so he better start acting like one. Josh nodded at Bananas's statement and added:
"I flipped all the votes and you would think, knowing my history, knowing that I haven't made a final, knowing the s**t I get, you would think that is big enough solid. This kid has my back. I already did you a huge favor. I don't owe you anything."
The Challenge 40 star Josh Martinez stands confused about his relationship with Cory
The Challenge 40 stars Josh and Cory faced each other in the elimination arena, leading to Cory's win and Josh's elimination. Once Josh Martinez called Cory "family," however, after Cory expected Josh to sideline his real-life friend Bananas and stand with him, Josh felt he had enough of him. The things between the two started going down, and it all came down to both of them facing each other in the elimination.
After his elimination, The Challenge 40 star Josh opened up about his status with Cory during an interview with Entertainment Weekly and said:
"I don't know where my friendship and my relationship stands with Cory, and I don't think we'll ever work together in this game just because of how it's gone down between us. But I do wish him the best."
He also felt that the challenge was tailor-made for Cory as it was a test of physical abilities, and Josh was already down with his knee injury. He added that Cory was one of the jacked-up guys on the show and "would have won it either way."
The Challenge 40 will release episode 18, The End of An Era, on January 1, 2025, exclusively on MTV.
