It's not uncommon for long-running shows like Grey's Anatomy to see characters come and go over the years. In the ongoing Season 21, Dr. Levi Schmitt (Jake Borelli) and Dr. Mika Yasuda (Midori Francis) have left the acclaimed medical drama as their character arc reached a satisfying conclusion.

Similarly, Sandra Oh's Cristina Yang was one of the popular figures, known as the fierce and intelligent surgical intern at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. Apart from her excellence in cardiothoracic surgery, Yang is also close to Meredith Grey.

It was in Grey's Anatomy Season 10 when fans had to bid farewell to Cristina Yang. However, her presence can still be felt through the texts she sends to Meredith, and the actress doesn't feel the need for the character to be back in Grey's Anatomy.

Sanda Oh said in an interview (via Entertainment Weekly):

"The character should still be there to service the story— and so, yay!

She continued:

"For the longest time, it has always been a hard no. And it's just.... I don't know. I just don't know."

The actress acknowledged how fans loved her character, but expressed her uncertainty about returning to the show.

While Ellen Pompeo's Meredith Grey is still considered the most adored character, the medical drama would have been incomplete without other key characters like Cristin Yang. Along with personal life issues, Yang has endured life-altering events like a hospital shooting, a plane crash, and more.

In Grey's Anatomy Season 10, she left Seattle after accepting the job role as Chief Medical Officer and Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Klausman Institute for Medical Research in Zurich. This way, the drama ensured her growth as a surgeon.

However, when it comes to Sandra Oh's thoughts on reprising her role, the actress personally doesn't feel the need. She said:

"I don't feel the need to revisit, but I also profoundly understand the audience's love for this character because I've seen it for the past 10 years. That's the part that makes me just go, hmmm."

Oh's views on returning to the ABC medical drama weren't a firm rejection, but she also explained that it has been a "hard no". Even though Oh might not return as Yang, she will forever remain a beloved character.
