Actor Devon Sawa recently discussed the Chucky franchise in a Forbes interview to promote his new slasher comedy film, Heart Eyes. The Syfy series Chucky was canceled after the conclusion of the second part of the third season on May 1, 2024. Sawa was sure about more chapters in the franchise but unsure about his involvement in them.

The Syfy channel series Chucky is set after the events of the seventh movie, Cult of Chucky, which was released in 2017. It revolves around the sadistic serial killer Chucky committing multiple murders in Hackensack. Attempting to stop him are the protagonists Jake Wheeler, his boyfriend Devon, and Jake's bully-turned-friend Lexy. Over three seasons of the series, Devon Sawa has essayed multiple roles.

Despite getting appreciation, the show was canceled by NBCUniversal. Reacting to the news, showrunner and creator Don Mancini had said in a statement:

“I’m heartbroken over the news that Chucky won’t be coming back for a fourth season but am so grateful for the killer three years we did have. I’d like to thank UCP/Syfy/Peacock/Eat the Cat, our awesome cast and Toronto-based crew — the best in the business — and finally, to our amazing fans, a big bloody hug. Your incredible #RenewChucky campaign really warmed Chucky’s cold heart. Chucky will return! He ALWAYS comes back.”

What did Devon Sawa say about the future of Chucky?

Forbes Writer Simon Thompson interviewed actor Devon Sawa, who played Lucas and Logan Wheeler in Chucky Season 1, Father Bryce in Season 2, and President James Collins and Randall Jenkins, the decoy of the president in Season 3. In the Forbes interview, Sawa promoted his movie, Heart Eyes, which opened on February 7, 2025, but that conversation was not limited just to his new release.

Sawa did mention the Child's Play TV series throughout the interview multiple times. Thompson pointed out that fans of the series were hoping that the show was renewed for a fourth season, on a different network. Sawa, acknowledging the fans' hopes, replied:

"If I was in Vegas, I’d bet the house that you’re going see some more Chucky stuff. It sells a lot of t-shirts, cereal, and lunch boxes, so one way or another, we’re getting more Chucky content. Am I going to be in it? I hope so. I have not heard one way or another."

Sawa, expressing his affection for the Child's Play franchise, continued:

"I think there’s a changing of the guard as far as producers and whatnot. I don’t know the full story. They don’t tell me a lot. I hope and pray that I go back because it is, along with Final Destination and Idle Hands and the Stan video, one of those projects that I put up on the shelf, and I'm very proud of."

This means that even if the murderous doll were to return, it is unclear if Sawa and the rest of the show's associated characters will come back in future installments.

What do you think? Do you want Chucky Season 4, or something entirely new?
