“I had this feeling”: 1923 star Julia Schlaepfer reveals she predicted Alexandra’s tragic fate even before the series premiered

1923 Season 2 has come to an end, concluding the tussle between the Duttons and the Whitfields. The show had a bittersweet ending as Alexandra finally had a reunion with her husband, Spencer.

However, the poor woman, who had already been through enough, died after prematurely delivering her baby. While the twist left the viewers shocked, actress Julia Schlaepfer, who played Alexandra, already had a feeling about her character’s tragic fate even before she started filming for the first season.

In an interview with People Magazine, Schlaepfer recalled one of her early meetings with 1923 creator Taylor Sheridan, where she expressed her worries about how he might kill off her character in the Western drama. The actress revealed:

“I had this feeling. I don't know why. I think I just had a feeling that that's how it would go.”

Julia Schlaepfer was confirmed as a cast member of 1923 in September 2022, and the show premiered three months later in December 2022. In her interview, Schlaepfer revealed that before filming the first season, Taylor Sheridan gathered the cast for a dinner, where she asked him about her character’s eventual fate:

“Before we started filming season 1 when Taylor took us to dinner, I literally sat next to him and I was like, ‘I'm dying, aren't I?’ Like, 'I'm going to die.’”

The actress added that at the time, Sheridan did not confirm whether Alexandra would make it out of the Yellowstone prequel alive:

“[He said] ‘I don't know yet. You might not. I don't know.’ I think he did have a couple different versions in his head. No one knew. No one knew for sure. I don't even think he did for a long time.”

However, Schlaepfer highlighted that despite predicting that Alexandra could die, she was still not prepared for it when she read the second season’s script and even when she performed the death scene:

“Nothing can prepare you for reading it for the first time, or seeing it, or, especially, performing it. That hit different.”

Alexandra’s death is being counted among the most heartbreaking moments in the show. After spending months apart, Alexandra and Spencer finally meet in the season 2 finale, but the reunion is cut short due to the unfortunate incident.
