Slow Horses writer Will Smith threw shade at actor Chris Rock at the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards. Smith was awarded an Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series for Slow Horses.
The writer shares the exact name with Fresh Prince actor ‘Will Smith’ and recalls the heated 2022 Oscar moment between the I Am Legend actor and Chris Rock. Initially, people appeared befuddled by the name until the writer nonchalantly walked onto the stage.
Taking notice of the audience’s anxiety, Smith decided to diffuse the tension and cracked the aforementioned joke. With a bright smile and looking over the sea of celebs and bigwigs of the entertainment industry, he fibbed,
“First of all, relax! Despite my name, I come in peace.”
His quip earned quite a hilarious response from the crowd who erupted in laughter in response to the Slow Horses writer’s comments. The Emmy-winning actor briefly paused and continued to express his gratitude for the win.
Firstly, he added a special mention to the author whose book inspired the series: Mick Herron. Next, he thanked the marvelous team of actors including Gary Oldman for bringing his words alive.

Back in 2022, Rock was elected to present the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. Rock is renowned for his impeccable humor which would leave you rolling on the floor laughing.
As a comedian, Rock ensures his audience is in the know about his jokes: they’re not personal or meant to diss, it’s pure humor. Before announcing the nominees of the evening, Rock brought up Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith. He jokingly teased his wife for her shaven head causing her to react in irritation.
Noticing his wife’s annoyed expression, Smith got to his feet while Rock and the audience were still laughing. Smith waltzed up to the stage, looked Rock in the eyes, and suddenly delivered a gobsmacking slap across Rock's face. This left both Rock and the audience completely flabbergasted.
Smith’s action resulted in him getting banned from the Oscars for 10 years. Additionally, he also issued a formal apology to his fans and Chris. To date, he’s remained out of the limelight.
