How many seasons would The Wheel of Time have? Showrunner drops major update

Prime Video has consistently shown faith in The Wheel of Time by giving an early renewal to every season of the show so far. The third chapter of the fantasy drama is now set to hit the screens on March 13, 2025.

Based on Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson’s novel series of the same name, the show follows five young people, one of whom is a dragon reincarnation, who could either save or destroy the world. The novel series has 14 chapters, out of which only five have been adapted so far.

This makes the audience wonder how many total seasons would The Wheel of Time have. Showrunner, Rafe Judkins, has now shared a major update about his plans for the show, revealing he envisions it as a six or seven-season storyline.

Rafe Judkins says The Wheel of Time could have 6 or 7 seasons

In an interview with SFX Magazine, Rafe Judkins revealed that he is willing to make 6 to 7 seasons of The Wheel of Time, considering the vast storyline of the source material:

“I can see versions of the show that are six or seven seasons, but part of what makes the series great is the length. It's one of the reasons people read it and it stands alone in that sense.”

However, Judkins agreed that there may be some challenges along the way as streaming shows usually do not last that long:

“But I'm always realistic. I’m sure everyone will be happy if they’re like, ‘Oh, can you just do a satisfying ending in season 4 because we don’t make shows that long anymore.’”

While the showrunner wants to continue The Wheel of Time for at least three more seasons, the decision will ultimately lie with Prime Video. Till now, the streaming platform has not disappointed fans as the previous seasons were given timely renewals.

In his interview, Judkins added that he wants to stay faithful to the novel’s ending, and would like to conclude the series the same way:

“My job is to do everything I can to get it to the end and give you Jordan's ending because it's so powerful. It really does stick the landing. If we don't, my job is to make sure we're telling a great story up to that point.”

The Wheel of Time season 3 adapts the fourth and fifth books, The Shadow Rising and The Fires of Heaven, which will follow Rand and Moiraine, who are on a dangerous journey to the Aiel Waste, to learn more about Rand’s dragon origins. The series stars Rosamund Pike, Daniel Henney, Josha Stradowski, Madeleine Madden, and Zoë Robins in pivotal roles.
