“He’s willing to go far”: Stephen Amell teases Ted Black’s layered character in Suits LA

Stephen Amell is soon going to be seen playing the lead role in Suits LA. In the new Suits spin-off, the actor stars as Ted Black, a New York-based federal prosecutor who moves to Los Angeles and establishes a law firm.

The original series is already famous for its eccentric characters like Harvey Specter and Mike Ross. Stephen has now talked about what is special about his character in Suits LA. In an interview with TV Weekly, he highlighted how Ted is willing to go to extreme lengths to achieve what he wants, but at the same time, does not forget his human side, saying:

“He’s willing to go far, but he does like to stay within the parameters of the law. [He] is maybe better able to compartmentalize the human element of things.”

Stephen Amell talks about Ted Black’s character in Suits LA

In his interview, Stephen Amell also opened up about how Suits LA will have the themes of office drama, politics, and romance, just like the predecessor series:

“This is the world of Suits and of interoffice drama and politics and romance.”

Talking about the most interesting aspect of Ted Black, Stephen said there is a side of him that he hides from everyone:

“Behind closed doors, there’s a version of Ted that he does not let anyone see, and that’s, for me personally, the most interesting part of the character.”

Meanwhile, series creator Aaron Korsh was also present during the interview and hinted at Ted's troubled relationship with his father, who is going to die soon. This incident leads him on a path that changes the trajectory of his life.

The spin-off is set in the same universe as Suits, with Harvey Specter serving as a common link between the two. He happens to be Ted’s old friend and will appear in a few episodes of the first season, with Gabriel Macht reprising his role.

The official synopsis for the series reads:

“Ted Black, a former federal prosecutor from New York, has reinvented himself representing the most powerful clients in Los Angeles. His firm is at a crisis point, and in order to survive he must embrace a role he held in contempt his entire career.”

“Ted is surrounded by a stellar group of characters who test their loyalties to both Ted and each other while they can’t help but mix their personal and professional lives.”

Apart from Stephen Amell and Gabriel Macht, the show stars Josh McDermitt as Stuart Lane, Bryan Greenberg as Rick Dodsen, Lex Scott Davis as Erica Rollins, Alice Lee as Leah, Troy Winbush as Kevin, Victoria Justice as Dylan Pryo, Rachelle Goulding as Samantha, and Azita Ghanizada as Roslyn.

Suits LA will premiere on NBC on February 23, 2025.
