“He's gotta fight”: Dark Winds star teases an intense season 3 for Jim Chee

Dark Winds Season 3 is all set to premiere on AMC on March 9, 2025. The show is returning after almost two years, and the long wait has only added to the fans’ excitement. Based on Tony Hillerman’s book series Leaphorn & Chee, the series revolves around tribal police officer Joe Leaphorn and undercover FBI agent Jim Chee.

Actor Kiowa Gordon, who plays Jim Chee, has talked about what to expect from his character’s arc in Dark Winds Season 3. In an interview with Collider, he said the FBI agent will have to face new challenges while still dealing with the ghosts of his past:

“He's gotta fight with what he's done this season as well.”

Kiowa Gordon opens up about Jim Chee’s character arc in Dark Winds Season 3

Kiowa Gordon teased that a lot is going to happen with Jim Chee in Dark Winds Season 3 that might force him to explore a more spiritual path:

“I hope that we can even delve further into his spirituality, maybe by the end of this season or maybe even into Season 4 because there's a lot [that] goes on in this season.”

The actor added the agent will continue to be haunted by external adversaries while also dealing with the responsibility of being a Navajo man and a police officer:

“[He's gotta] really look at why he places so much value on being this Navajo man who's out there being a cop and also has grudges on old adversaries that he can't seem to quite get over logically. So, it's fun to see his journey become moreso like... He's not in it for himself anymore, and I find that that's where I am too.”

Gordon has been a part of the psychological thriller series since its inception in 2022 and has always impressed the audience with his layered performance as Jim Chee. He is the deputy lieutenant to Joe Leaphorn, and the two solve some intriguing cases in every season.

In the new season, Chee and Leaphorn team up once again to investigate the disappearance of two young boys. The only clue they have on the case is a bicycle and bloodstains on the ground. As the case becomes more and more difficult, Chee, as well as Leaphorn, have to struggle with some personal issues.

Apart from Kiowa Gordon, Dark Winds Season 3 stars Zahn McClarnon as Joe Leaphorn, Jessica Matten as Bernadette Manuelito, Deanna Allison as Emma Leaphorn, A Martinez as Sheriff Gordo Sena, Jenna Elfman as Sylvia Washington, Terry Serpico as Officer Henry, and Alex Meraz as Ivan Muños.
