Attention Potterheads! HBO's upcoming Harry Potter TV reboot series has almost finalized the casting for the crucial character of Rubeus Hagrid.
Hagrid, a towering but gentle giant wizard, was played by Robbie Coltrane and Martin Bayfield (younger Hagrid) in J.K. Rowling's novel series-inspired Harry Potter films starring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Tom Felton, and Rupert Grint. Unfortunately, Coltrane died due to sepsis and multi-organ failure on October 14, 2022.
Per Deadline, Nick Frost, the 52-year-old British actor and comedian, has almost been finalized to play Rubeus Hagrid for the upcoming HBO's Harry Potter series. The makers of the show have offered a deal to Frost to play the iconic role of Hagrid. However, HBO has so far declined to reveal details about the deal. An HBO representative, while defending J. K Rowling's involvement in the upcoming series, told Variety:
"We appreciate that such a high profile series will draw a lot of rumor and speculation. As we make our way through pre-production, we will draw a lot of rumor and speculation."
Production for the upcoming Harry Potter series is set to begin in the summer of 2025 at Leavesden Studios. Thus, the first season might be scheduled for 2026-end or 2027.
In an interview with ScreenRant, John Lithgow revealed that he has been roped into play Albus Dumbledore, the Hogwarts Headmaster, for the upcoming HBO series. Interestingly, Lithgow will be the first non-British actor to play Dumbledore in Harry Potter. The role was earlier played by the British and Irish actors Richard Harris, Jude Law, and Michael Gambon.

Born on March 28, 1972, Nicholas John Frost has been almost finalized to play the role of Rubeus Hagrid in the upcoming HBO Harry Potter series. Frost, 52, is a popular English actor, screenwriter, and comedian, and is well known for his roles in the Cornetto Triology.
The Cornetto Trilogy, or The Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy, is a British anthology of comedy films. Frost is well known for his roles in Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead, Why Women Kill, and Get Away.
Frost's involvement in the HBO Harry Potter series was decoded by enthusiastic Potterheads via his recent Instagram post, where he shared a selfie donning a navy blue track shirt and a cool silver-plated chain.
"What a bloody lovely day! It's happening. It's actually happening. Stay cool."
Although Emmy-winning actor Brett Goldstein was previously rumoured to play the role of Hagrid, Frost has reportedly been offered the role. On the other hand, as per Deadline, Janet McTear has been approached to play Minerva McGonagall and Paapa Essiedu could be Severus Snape.
The showrunner, Francesca Gardiner, director Mark Mylod, producers, and HBO chief have refused to dilvulge cast details for the upcoming HBO Harry Potter seriesz, leaving Potterheads curious.
