HBO has released The Last of Us Season 2 character posters ahead of its premiere on April 13, 2025. HBO is gearing up for the new installment of Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin's The Last of Us with hauntingly up-close portraits of the major characters and some new ones as well.
With the official trailer release for the new installment on March 8, 2025, HBO is creating momentum for the game-turned-series' season premiere on 13th April. The new poster art reveals a portrait of the main characters Ellie and Joel, played by Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal.
Characters - Old and New- in The Last of Us Season 2
HBO has revealed new character portraits for the main characters Joel and Ellie. Joel, played by Pedro Pascal, is a survivor in the post-infection-ravaged world where humans are turned into violent creatures. Twenty years later, he is hired to make sure that Ellie, a 14-year-old, played by Bella Ramsey, reaches the rebel Fireflies safely.
The Season 1 finale witnessed Joel and Ellie in a morally grey ending, making audiences all over eager for The Last of Us Season 2. With Joel lying to Ellie about the truth behind the Fireflies' death, the duo is emotionally distanced, and Season 2 has a large avenue of emotions to explore when it comes to Ellie and Joe's relationship.

Along with Joel and Ellie, HBO also released posters for some of the new characters that are going to be introduced in The Last of Us Season 2. Kaitlyn Dever is revealed to be playing Abigail "Abby" Anderson, a character in the video game The Last of Us Part II. The character portrait released by HBO confirms what the fans spotted in the official trailer. The character portraits released by HBO unveiled that Isabela Merced will be taking up the role of Dina in the new season. Young Manzino is taking up the role of Jesse, along with Catherine O'Hara, who's playing a character named Gale, rumored to be Joel's therapist.

Some of the other character portraits released by HBO revealed Gabriel Luna, who plays Tommy, Joel's brother, as seen in the first season. Additionally, Rutina Wesley is also set to reprise her role as Maria Miller in the new installment.
Set to premiere on April 13, 2025, The Last of Us Season 2 will move forward with the story of Joel and Ellie with the addition of some new characters like Gale and Dina. The second season is rumored to be shorter than the first season, with only 7 episodes. 5 years into the future from where Season 1 left off, Season 2 will tackle the strained relationship between Joel and Ellie in the light of secrets. As confirmed by the executive producer, the show will be closely following the game's story in the new installment as well.
