Daredevil: Born Again is about to hit the screens with the release of its first episode on March 4, 2025. The show brings back Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, over six years after the cancellation of Netflix’s Daredevil.
Joining Charlie will be Jon Bernthal, another Marvel veteran who reprises his role as the Punisher in the Disney+ series. Charlie has now opened up about how it was for him to work with Jon after all these years.
In an interview with GamesRadar+, the actor said Jon gets very much involved in the process. There was a scene that they had to shoot and The Punisher actor was not convinced about it, so he rewrote the dialog:
“He just changed some of his lines, he had kinda written his own thing. So, I had to adapt and relearn my stuff, which I'm totally okay to do as he's brilliant. And then we get to set and he didn't say any of those, he just made up a whole new set of lines. And I was like, 'Okay!'”
Charlie Cox shares how Jon Bernthal rewrote a scene in Daredevil: Born Again
Teasing at how Matt Murdock and Frank Castle aka The Punisher will be sharing the screen in Daredevil: Born Again, Charlie Cox revealed John Bernthal called him the night before the shoot as he did not like the way the scene was written:
“There was a scene this season, and he cares so much, he gets so into it like thinks about it, it's almost like a pain-body. We had this scene and he called me the night before and he said 'Some of these lines don't make sense for me for where I'm at, I need to mess with these a little bit. Here's what I'm gonna say, I want to say this.’”
Charlie then added he had to relearn his lines to incorporate the changes. However, Jon once again ended up changing the dialog during the filming of that particular scene, and Charlie had to improvise again. Further talking about Frank Castle’s appearance in Daredevil: Born Again, the actor said:
“He has a couple of really great scenes, potentially iconic moments. They're an absolute joy to shoot! I feel like Jon and Charlie are very different people, but Daredevil and Frank are much more similar to one another. So, it's fun to play with that.”
Daredevil: Born Again picks up around five years after the events of Daredevil and revolves around Matt Murdock facing his past once again as he encounters Wilson Fisk.
Apart from Charlie and Jon, some other actors are also returning from the original series, including Vincent D'Onofrio, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, and Wilson Bethel.
