The Fox show Extracted, with a twist on a reality TV game show, premiered on February 10, 2025. The outdoor reality show genre has formed its own niche audience with shows like Survivor, The Challenge, Alone, and many more.

However, this time Fox has introduced a twist in its new game show, which will have two loved ones of the contestants watching them hoovering their way in the woods. Yes, you heard it right! As the 12 untrained contestants vie for $250,000, their loved ones will watch them do it.

The loved ones have a special power, though; they can extract their contestant at any given point from the show, sitting in a nearby headquarters.

The show is set in the wilderness of British Columbian woods. The "Head of Extraction," Megan Hine, who will look after the entrance and exit of the contestants, had some great things to say about the whole tech situation, which serves as a major component of this reality TV game show. The filming will include 8 miles of optic fiber, with 176 cameras and 100 audio feeds.

"That side of it is insane, and it is groundbreaking. I’ve been working behind the scenes on adventure survival shows for over 20 years now, and this is the first time that I’ve seen this on this scale, and it was so exciting. It was pioneering technology," said Extracted's Megan Hine.

Megan Hine talks about the unique concept of the reality TV game show, Extracted

Famously known for her work with Bear Grylls and her years of experience as a survivalist consultant, Megan Hine's project as a head of extraction in Extracted will be a unique experience. During an exclusive interview with Parade Magazine, Hine opened up about why the show is unique despite being a reality TV game show like many others.

Hine described the show as "two separate shows" taking place in one and said:

"It's essentially a social experiment of taking what was really important. We would take people who had very little, if not any, survival experience and put them out there into the terrain to survive, and then had the families or close friends making decisions."

The contestants can pass on their message to their family members by speaking out loud. However, the family members can only listen to them and do not have the power to respond back.

Extracted will unleash a constant dilemma for the family members while the contestants will have to go through group dynamics, struggle with nature, and forge alliances to survive longer.

Extracted premiered on Fox on February 10 at 8 pm ET.
