"Got absolutely owned" — The Challenge 40 fans react to Kyland's performance in Part 1 of the finale

MTV dropped Part 1 of The Challenge Season 40 on January 1, 2025. Eight finalists took part in three challenges in the Part 1 episode of the finale, titled The End of An Era, in a bid to get a headstart before the final challenge in the second part. Part 2 of The End of An Era is slated to drop on January 8, 2025.

The day began with show host TJ revealing the karma points each finalist has been receiving from the eliminated contestants. Soon after, the group went through three challenges, Swimming was a part of each of these challenges. Kyland Young, a weak swimmer ended up at the bottom of the scoreboard across all checkpoints. He was so upset with the recurring swimming challenges that he pi*sed on one of the checkpoints.

While some fans of The Challenge thought Kyland's performance weak, a few were upset with the producers.

"lol Kyland got absolutely owned by all this swimming in the final #TheChallenge," a fan wrote on X.

Another user comment read,

"Kyland better don't come back unless you're a good at swimming ! That was pathetic to watch 😭😭 #TheChallenge40 #thechallenge"

A fan of The Challenge posted,

"I would have quit this final a long time ago if I were Kyland; there’s no way he is catching up with any of them at this point,"

Kyland is giving 150%, but he's struggling bc he just isn't a great swimmer and it's nothing he can change in an instant. a netizen wrote.

A few netizens blamed the production house and questioned the challenges set by them.

An admirer of The Challenge posted,

"So production clearly did not want Kyland to win 😒 he is p*ssed off ! As he should be. #thechallenge"
"They set Kyland up BAD in this final?!? Production you’ll pay for this 1! #TheChallenge #TheChallenge40," read a post on X.
""All swimming the first part is kinda crazy when they know Jordan has the biggest advantage and Kyland would have the biggest disadvantage is kinda annoying," a post read.
"This final sucks. Finals are supposed to test a variety of challenge skills. This one is all swimming. I don't agree with Bananas often, but he's correct that this was made for Jordan. And Kyland has no chance. At least the women's side is somewhat competitive," a fan pointed out, noting how Part 1 of the final only had swimming challenges.
