Apple TV+ has officially announced the renewal of For All Mankind for season 5. Viewers and fans of the sci-fi drama have been eagerly waiting for the new season since its fourth installment ended on January 12, 2024.

According to the streaming platform, the show is considered "the best-written show on all of television." Furthermore, For All Mankind has received a perfect rating of 100% from Rotten Tomatoes, cementing Apple TV's claim.

The Head of Programming, Matt Cherniss, expressed his thoughts on the renewal. Teasing the upcoming season, he said:

"There is so much to explore and we along with our partners at Sony, can't wait to dive into this next chapter of the engrossing 'For All Mankind' universe."

Per the official synopsis, For All Mankind is set in an alternate timeline where the Soviets were the first to explore space and reach the moon, defeating the U.S. from getting to the celestial body. It also follows the journey of the 'cosmonauts' who embarked on missions to the moon and beyond.

Additionally, it depicts the tumultuous paths and dangers of space for the explorers. The upcoming season will pick up from where it left off in season 4—the aftermath of gaining control of Goldilocks, a mineral-rich asteroid worth billions.

Spin-off For All Mankind announced

The For All Mankind fandom can rejoice because, along with announcing season 5, Apple TV+ has confirmed that a spin-off of the space drama is in the works. The spin-off, called Star City, will be produced by the original creators of the show, including Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert, and Ben Nedvi.

Although Star City will maintain the ethos of For All Mankind, per the official synopsis, the story will center around "the lives of cosmonauts, engineers, and intelligence officers" involved in the grunt work and effort to "propel humanity forward"—life behind the Iron Curtain.

When will season 5 of For All Mankind be released?

Shortly after Apple TV+ announced the renewal of For All Mankind, viewers were naturally curious about a potential release date. While the streaming platform hasn’t yet provided an official date, co-creator Ben Nedvi did tease the release of season 5.

In an interview with Collider dated October 25, 2023, Nedvi claimed that due to the writer's strike, season 5’s progress was on hold. Speaking to the publication, he said:

"I think this is the first time in the history of the show where the show is premiering without us really starting a room for season 5."

In light of Nedvi’s statements, fans and viewers speculate a 2025 release, especially since season 5 was recently announced.
