Prime Video and Reese Witherspoon have revealed the first look of Lexi Minetree as young Elle Woods in Elle, the upcoming prequel to Witherspoon's Legally Blonde. This look comes with the announcement that production and filming for the Legally Blonde prequel has officially begun. Reese Witherspoon announced the same on her Instagram with the caption "Harvard was hard. High School was harder. Our new series, Elle, is now in production!"
This announcement comes mere weeks after Witherspoon announced on her Instagram that Lexi Minetree was cast as the lead for the Legally Blonde prequel. This prequel will follow her throughout her high school years, a time before she went off to Harvard for her law degree.
Here's everything we know about the prequel series to Legally Blonde.
The Legally Blonde prequel, Elle in production
On May 14, 2024, during the Amazon Upfront presentation, Reese Witherspoon, the original Elle Woods in the first Legally Blonde film, was the fairy angel in pink granting the wishes of millions of fans when she announced that her character from the first Legally Blonde film was getting a backstory through a prequel series. The official synopsis of the prequel series reads as such
"Elle follows Elle Woods in high school as we learn about the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we came to know and love in the first ‘Legally Blonde’ film."
In February 2025, the Valentine's joy was multiplied for the fans when Lexi Minetree was announced to be playing the teenager. Several other cast members have been revealed since, including the teenager's parents, Wyatt and Eva, played by Tom Everett Scott and June Diane Raphael. Among other regular cast members are Chandler Kinney, who will be playing Kimberly, "a sharp-tongued senior who is not a fan of the show’s titular character," and Jacob Moskovitz, portraying Miles, "the school’s star athlete who is charmed" by the titular character. Another addition to the cast is Gabrielle Policano, who is simply described as Elle's opposite.
Talking about the Legally Blonde prequel, Reese Witherspoon commented
"I truly couldn’t be more excited about this series! Fans will get to know how Elle Woods navigated her world as a teenager with her distinct personality and ingenuity, in ways that only our beloved Elle could do. What could be better than that? I’m extremely grateful to the incredible teams at Prime Video and Hello Sunshine — along with our amazing writer Laura Kittrell — for making this dream of mine come true. Legally Blonde is back!"
Witherspoon announced on her Instagram that the Prime Video exclusive prequel series could be expected by 2025, but since production started in April 2025, we can hope that we'll be watching it by late 2025. But it may just get delayed into early 2026.
