On Dec 23, one of the sharks from the business reality TV show Shark Tank posted a clip where he expressed his concern for the absence of financial education in the schools' curriculum.

"I think financial literacy is a mess in this country. We don't teach anybody anything in high school, which is crazy. We teach about s*x and Geography and everything else in History but we don't tell them what debt is. Like, that's nuts!"

He then threw light on how many states including Florida, Texas, and California have started adding financial education to their school curriculums.

"So, Florida, where I'm living, we've got that in the curriculum now. They're talking about it here in New York, Texas, and California, that's about 60% of the educational markets. 110,000 school buildings in America. We should be talking about credit card debt, day one."

Kevin O'Leary from Shark Tank elaborates on the lack of financial literacy in the education system

This is not the first time Kevin O'Leary has raised his concerns about the lack of financial literacy in the education system. In 2020, he talked about how schools do not find financial education as important as other subjects.

"We care more about that than anything else. Because if you score poorly in reading or math, you don't advance through the system. So, all the energy from the teaching focus to all of the software development focuses on that."

Kevin also emphasized the importance of the subject and his commitment to promoting it.

"Anybody who is involved in financial literacy and that focus is doing a good thing. If I can use my Shark Tank platform and notoriety to get people thinking, including parents about getting their kids set up, I'm doing, for me, an important thing."

He sees his role on Shark Tank as a way to raise awareness among parents about getting their kids ready for financial success.
