The first two episodes of Apple TV's Dope Thief will premiere on March 14, 2025. Apple TV has also released the trailer for the crime drama, which was created by Peter Craig and directed by Ridley Scott.

Dope Thief takes inspiration from Dennis Tafoya's novel and centers on two childhood friends, Manny (Wagner Moura) and Ray (Brian Tyree Henry), from Philadelphia. Posing as DEA agents, they attempt to rob a mysterious house, but their ruse quickly spirals into a nightmare. The pair soon discover they are caught in a concealed narcotics corridor along the Eastern seaboard.

The official synopsis reads,

"Follows long-time friends and delinquents who pose as DEA agents to rob a house in the countryside, unintellionally revealing and unraveling the biggest narcotics corridor on the Eastern Seaboard."

The trailer begins with Manny and Ray on the bridge, tossing a sheet into the river to see which one travels the farthest. In a nostalgic flashback, viewers are reminded that they are childhood friends.

The scene shifts to Ray and Manny posing as fake DEA agents to rob dealers as they explain,

"We are posing as Feds. We're ripping off drug dealers. If you're good, they don't remember your face. Just the badge."

Their scheme seems foolproof until they target the wrong house in the countryside, which leads to a confrontation. Even though they leave the scene in their van, one of their victims threatens them,

"You took our money and dope. Now I have to kill everybody you know."

Their mistake put them and their families' lives in danger. Ray tries to protect his loved ones. In one scene, he tells his mother to move out when she says,

"I can't just pick up and go to Atlantic City. I'm an old lady."

As the threat increases, Ray realizes the severity of the situation and admits,

"These people are gonna hurt anybody that we care about."

The moral lines blur as Ray and his partner Manny reflect on their past doings while Manny says,

"This isn't us. We weren't killers, Ray."

The tension builds as Ray declares that they are the only people who can stop this. The trailer has action-packed, chaotic moments, including gunfires, explosions, and police sirens. It also suggests that there might be a breach of trust between the fake DEA partners. The trailer highlights crime, betrayals, and a struggle for survival.
