Fans have been waiting for updates on Heartstopper Season 4 for over six months now, as the previous installment of the show was released in October 2024. Ever since, Netflix has remained tight-lipped about the series' future.

Based on Alice Oseman's graphic novels, the show is known for its fairytale romance, as well as for its earnest portrayal of the issues faced by the LGBTQ community. Kit Connor, who stars in the lead role of Nick Nelson, has now expressed his desire to work on Heartstopper Season 4; however, he has one particular condition to return to the romantic comedy-drama.

In an interview with Vogue, the actor said he is willing to continue with the show as long as the storyline has some ‘heart,’ but would not return if the narrative does not feel right. He stated:

“I’d definitely like to do it as long as it’s done right. I just want to make sure that we keep the heart in it. So, we are working on something, and hopefully, we’re making it happen. But we’ll see. No promises. I don’t want to do it if it’s not right.”

Heartstopper Season 4 has not been renewed by Netflix yet

Kit Connor shot to fame with the Netflix series, which premiered in April 2022, and received the second and third seasons’ renewal simultaneously the following month, owing to the positive response from the audience.

However, season 3 came out in October 2024, but Netflix has neither canceled the show nor announced a Heartstopper Season 4 as of now. Apart from Connor, the rest of the show’s team is also hopeful of the show being continued. Author Alice Oseman, who serves as an executive producer on the show, said in an interview with Deadline last year:

“I would like there to be [Heartstopper Season 4]. We’ve got no kind of confirmation yet.”

The graphic novels have released five volumes so far, and a sixth and final one is already on the way. Oseman said she is interested in adapting the entire novel series into the television show:

“I would love to adapt volume six. I think one more season or one more, whatever it could be, would finish the story, conclude everyone’s character arcs, and help us to say goodbye to all of those characters. So yeah, keeping my fingers crossed.”

If Heartstopper Season 4 is greenlit, it will continue to explore Charlie Spring and Nick Nelson's romance. Charlie is an introverted gay teen facing mental health issues who falls in love with his classmate, Nick. The two help each other in facing life’s challenges while also navigating school and friendships.

Connor stars opposite Joe Locke, who plays Charlie Spring. The cast also includes William Gao, Tobie Donovan, Yasmin Finney, Fisayo Akinade, Corinna Brown, Kizzy Edgell, Rhea Norwood, and Jenny Walser.

The first three seasons of Heartstopper are available to stream on Netflix.
