The Challenge 40: Battle of the Eras' latest Episode 17 aired on December 18, 2024, on MTV. The episode titled Location Change Era featured an elimination task between Cara Maria Sorbello and Tori Deal. After the task lasted almost three hours, the host added a rule, and it ended with Cara Maria's elimination.
It happened because none of the competitors were ready to give up. As The Challenge 40 host TJ Lavin mentioned, participants could not use their arms to tread water; although Cara Maria refused to give up, she went underwater. That was how she got eliminated, right before the show's finale.
In her December 18 interview with Entertainment Weekly, eliminated participant Cara Maria Sorbello mentioned that she gave her "best effort" during the final elimination.
"I feel like I gave my best effort. I did really, really, really well in the challenge — I came in second even with the time disadvantage. I should have come in first, so it's my fault, but I did well. I made a lot of friends. That elimination, I did very well until the very end. I did everything I could do."
The Challenge 40: Cara Maria opens up about the final elimination and how she "won in so many ways"
The Challenge 40: Battle of the Eras Episode 17 featured the final elimination task between Cara Maria Sorbello and Tori Deal. It happened after Jordan Wiseley chose her instead of Rachel Robinson. Cara Maria and Tori competed in the water endurance challenge. It was carried out at nighttime.
After the challenge continued even after three hours, there was an additional rule: they were supposed to tread water without using their arms in the competition.
During her interview, when The Challenge 40 star Cara Maria was asked about how Tori seemed during the elimination task, Cara said:
"She (Tori) had just won the swimming challenge. She's very comfortable in the water. So I was just like, "This is me against me at this point." I was nervous. I've never treaded water that long. I was trying to pretend I was on a beach waiting for my margarita. I was doing everything I could, but it was definitely the craziest elimination that I never expected in my life."
Cara Maria added that the game ended with her and Tori being thrown into the "middle of the ocean" for their final elimination task.
Despite losing and getting eliminated from the show, Cara mentioned:
"So in a way, I'm happy really with how it all ended."
The Challenge 40 star mentioned how she "won in so many ways," especially:
"Not having to do that final because I feel like it's going to be a lot of swimming. With that plus a popularity vote, maybe it's good that I ended where I ended. Honestly, I had an incredible season."
Further in her interview, Cara Maria Sorbello mentioned how she could let her "guard down" after Laurel Stucky's elimination." She said that "girls weren't targetting" the girls and that she "really, really had a good time" during The Challenge 40.
