Dexter is coming back with a bang and sharpened blades. The makers of Dexter: Resurrection teased the fans of the franchise with some intense sneak-peek photos. One of the more highly anticipated shows of the year, Dexter’s new spinoff series is slated to release this summer on Paramount+ with Showtime.

The new season is star-studded with names such as Uma Thurman, Peter Dinklage, and Neil Patrick Harris. Dexter: Resurrection released promotional photos with Vanity Fair, giving a glimpse into the latest outing of Dexter Morgan.

The original Dexter series follows the story of a serial killer who lives by the moral code of killing the guilty to curb his compulsions to commit murder. Dexter: Resurrection is a sequel to Dexter: New Blood, a spinoff from the original series. The series was developed by Clyde Phillips. Michael C. Hall portrays the titular role in the series. Phillips spoke to Vanity Fair about his call with Hall before the conception of the new show:

“Michael said, ‘Dexter is in my bones, and I know what’s in your bones, Clyde. Can you figure out a way to undo what we did at the end of New Blood? Is there a way to make him survive?”

The new season will be set in New York City, where Dexter is starting a whole new life. The show will take place a few weeks after the events of Dexter: New Blood. Dexter has recovered from being shot by his son Harrison Morgan (played by Jack Alcott), who has now moved to New York. Dexter is looking for Harrison.

Hall spoke about the storyline for Dexter: Resurrection:

“Dexter has a lot of hesitation about making contact, which is a fundamental part of the tension that is pervasive for the first bit of the season… Harrison revealed himself to be, and remains, an all-the-more potent connection to Dexter’s tiny sense of humanity. He craves it, in spite of himself, so it’s a major bolt of thread running through his interior life and the life of the season.”

The other guest stars on the show will include Neil Patrick Harris, Krysten Ritter, Eric Stonestreet, and David Dastmalchian.

Philips shared about the new cast:

“When Uma first came to the set, the whole set changed—in walks this movie star, and she has presence…But nobody gets a call sheet like this, particularly on a TV show. I guess it shows that we’re more than just a TV show. People want to work with Michael.”

Dexter ran for 8 seasons on Showtime. The show received great success, leading to the spinoff shows Dexter: New Blood, Dexter: Original Sin, and the upcoming Dexter: Resurrection.
