When Percy Jackson and the Olympians debuted on Disney+ in December 2023, it received praise from the audience and critics for its faithful adaptation of Rick Riordan’s fantasy novels. The series was soon renewed for season 2, which is set to premiere in 2025.

Jonathan E. Steinberg, the co-creator and co-showrunner, has now shared a positive update about the series’ future. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Steinberg said there are already talks going on about Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 3:

“We’re definitely talking. Part of wanting to keep the process going is trying to do whatever we can to be ready for it and to know how to have the conversations and to have a plan.”

The second season of the fantasy drama has already concluded filming as the production took place in Vancouver from August 2024 to January 2025. In his interview, Jonathan E. Steinberg said while a third season has not been officially renewed yet, the production team is hoping to return to work:

“Nothing’s official yet, but we assumed when we left Vancouver that we would be back at some point — soon, hopefully.”

The Percy Jackson novels feature seven books so far, so there is no dearth of source material for the creators. The first two books have been adapted into the first two seasons, and a potential third installment would be based on the third novel: The Titan's Curse. Talking about how the team plans to keep adapting Rick Riordan’s books, Steinberg said:

“Even in season one, we were thinking about it like the first act of the full story that it is. That’s part of the virtue of telling it this way. When Rick wrote the books, he wrote them in sequence, and we get to see the whole painting and then adapt it and sort of reformat it.”

He continued,

“Some of the conversations about season three have been conversations that have been happening since season one. You can’t avoid it. It’s all part of the same story.”

Percy Jackson and the Olympians revolves around the titular demigod, who gets some divine powers. However, the god Zeus accuses him of stealing his thunderbolt. Percy then sets out on an adventure with his friends to locate the thunderbolt.

The series stars Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson along with Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood, Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase, Daniel Diemer as Tyson, Dior Goodjohn as Clarisse La Rue, and Charlie Bushnell as Luke Castellan.
