Creature Commandos has kicked off the DCU with a bang. Created by James Gunn, the Max adult animated series has received acclaim for its impressive storytelling, stunning visuals, and amazing voice performances.
Owing to the positive response, the series was renewed for season 2 in December 2024, while the first chapter was still on-air. Showrunner Dean Lorey has now shared a positive update about Creature Commandos season 2, revealing the project is actively moving forward. He said in an interview with The Direct:
“It's still early days, but we are actively working on breaking the season and starting to figure that out. So it's definitely moving forward.”
Dean Lorey says development of Creature Commandos Season 2 is being fast-tracked
In his interview, Dean Lorey said the studio behind the series has decided to fast-track the production of Creature Commandos season 2, and the team is already working on it:
“I mean, it's like, they put it on a fast track, and they seem to mean it. So, yeah, we're in it.”
However, the release date for the upcoming season has not been revealed yet. In the same interview, Lorey also talked about what to expect from future episodes. He said the characters seen in the previous installment will continue to bring their fun element in the next season as well:
“It's like those are all characters that we think would be really fun in the season. And James [Gunn] wrote, you know, all the episodes last season. So those were his instincts, which are pretty good. So yeah, I would say there's that and, I mean, there's no world where I would want to do a season without a beefed-up GI Robot.”
Creature Commandos tells the story of a team of monsters, who do not shy away from bloodshed and take down enemies that are too dangerous for humans to fight. The team is assembled by Amanda Waller and includes members like the Bride, G.I. Robot, Doctor Phosphorus, Nina Mazursky, and Rick Flag Sr.
The show is the first project set in the DC Universe headed by James Gunn and Peter Safran. The first season premiered on December 5, 2024, and concluded on January 9, 2025, after airing seven exciting episodes.
The animated series features the voices of Indira Varma, Sean Gunn, Zoë Chao, David Harbour, Alan Tudyk, and Frank Grillo. The voice cast also includes Viola Davis, Maria Bakalova, Stephanie Beatriz, Steve Agee, Julian Kostov, Anya Chalotra, Peter Serafinowicz, and Michael Rooker.
All episodes of Creature Commandos season 1 are available to stream on Max.
