Severance Season 2, Episode 10, titled Cold Harbor, was released on March 21, 2025, on Apple TV+. Since then, viewers of Apple TV+'s psychological sci-fi thriller series have been hooked on what will happen next at Lumon Industries. Apple TV+ has finally renewed Severance for a third season, just a few hours after the Season 2 finale. Even though there is no release date for the upcoming season, the show’s creators promised it won't be a long wait.

In an interview with Dazed, Severance creator Dan Erickson opened up about a few tidbits of the upcoming season, mainly what would happen to the Innies at Lumon. He said,

"I think that we leave our innies in a very interesting and precarious place. They've made their decision to draw a line in the sand and choose their existence, at least for the moment."

In the same interview, Erickson revealed that he feels it's important for Innies and Outies to learn to coexist. However, he also teased some upcoming troubles for the Innies. He told Dazed,

"They don't know necessarily how long they're going to be able to stay alive and stay in any form down there, but they've chosen to fight for that as long as they can. I think it's going to put them in a very interesting, dangerous and cool place."

For the unversed, Severance follows the employees of Lumon Industries, who undergo a surgical procedure to "sever" their professional (Innie) and personal (Outie) memories. Confused? Simply put, when the employees are in the office, they have no memory of the outside world—and vice versa. The plot revolves around a recently widowed character named Mark Scout, played by Adam Scott, who begins to uncover some untold secrets about Lumon and learns how employees are "controlled" by their superiors.

Dan Erikson and Ben Stiller open up about Severance Season 3

As stated earlier, Apple TV+ has announced the renewal of Severance Season 3 just a few hours after the Season 2 finale. Created by Dan Erickson and directed by Ben Stiller, the series has achieved a whopping 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Erickson told Variety about the upcoming season, saying,

"There's a lot mapped out for Season 3, and there is an endpoint of the series as a whole, and we know more or less how many seasons we are going to do."

Director Ben Stiller reflected on Season 3 in the most 'severe' way possible. In an Apple TV+ press release statement, Stiller said,

"While I have no memory of this, I'm told making Season 3 will be equally enjoyable, though any recollection of these future events will be forever and irrevocably wiped from my memory as well."

Season 2 of Severance ended with Mark Innie refusing to leave Lumon with Gemma (Mark Outie's wife). Even though both Mark Innie and Mark Outie worked together to free Gemma, Mark Innie refused to leave and instead returned to his partner, Helly Innie. Severance Season 3 might explore the aftermath of Mark Innie's decision and the challenges that come with it.

The upcoming season might also feature Seth Milchick, the devoted manager of Lumon (played by Tramell Tillman), finally taking a stand against his superiors. The finale also hinted at "A Severed Rebellion" in the upcoming seasons, especially as Helly, Dylan, and other severed employees came together to help Mark find Gemma in Season 2.
