Since the first trailer of Daredevil: Born Again came out, fans cannot wait to watch Charlie Cox back in his iconic role, once again crossing paths with Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin. While the upcoming series is a sequel to the original Daredevil show, it introduces fans to new characters.
Daredevil: Born Again trailer also revealed Matt Murdock temporarily stopped being a vigilante and later took on a slightly different and new suit. However, crafting the sequel wasn't smooth sailing.
As explained by the showrunner Dario Scardapane and the leading cast member Charlie Cox, there were significant creative changes during the production of Daredevil: Born Again. Originally, the show was being led by Matt Corman and Chris Ord, but later Marvel realized the direction it was going, wasn't right.
Cox said (via SFX):
"There was a U-turn after the strike, where we were headed in one direction which was interesting and valid."
He continued:
"The argument was, if we’re coming back after all these years, we don’t want to just do exactly the same thing. Marvel looked at the episodes and knew it wasn’t quite working."
Halfway into the production of Daredevil: Born Again, Marvel decided to bring Dario Scardapane, who previously worked on The Punisher. Scardapane's involvement ensured the story aligned with what the Daredevil character established in the original show.

Daredevil: Born Again was reworked to fit into the MCU
The first season of the original Daredevil series premiered on Netflix almost a decade ago, which introduced fans to Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock or Daredevil. Murdock works as a lawyer in the daytime and takes on his vigilante role in the night.
He faced notable foes on his way, especially Wilson Fisk (played by Vincent D'Onofrio), who now seems to have won the public's respect. In Daredevil: Born Again, viewers will see Wilson taking over the political landscape using his manipulative tactics.
However, making a compelling narrative for the new show while also adding new characters was a demanding responsibility. As mentioned above, Dario Scardapane was asked to work on Daredevil: Born Again to correct the course of the show.
While mentioning the "U-turn" that Marvel had to take during the production, Cox added:
"We shot a whole new pilot and they reorganized what we had filmed to make it feel more like the show we had shot all those years previously. "
Charlie Cox continued:
"Given what a Herculean task that was, it’s very impressive what they achieved."
The early footage of the sequel had strong moments but didn't feel like Daredevil. As a result of Marvel's decision to incorporate the Defenders Saga into the MCU, the production team had to film a whole new pilot.
As seen in the trailer, Murdock reunites with his friends, and the series begins right after they have a dream about opening a business. This way, Marvel was able to return to the feel of the original Daredevil show but within the context of the MCU.
