As per the latest reports, CBS is currently working on the development of a new spin-off series titled FBI: CIA based on its well-known police procedural FBI. The latest rendition of the cop drama will reportedly portray a team-up between CIA and FBI officials, from law enforcement rooms to street-level action.

According to Variety, CBS is currently eyeing a 2025-26 release window, but an exact date has not been confirmed yet. The original show aired on CBS in 2018 and has even since gained popularity, especially among procedural fanatics. As per reports, we will have Dick Wolf as writer cum executive producer alongside David Hudgins (from FBI: Most Wanted) for the upcoming spin-off drama.

CBS Studios is developing a new FBI spin-off show

CBS is eyeing a new FBI spin-off series FBI: CIA, as Universal Television reportedly joins in with showrunner Dick Wolf. The official logline of FBI: CIA reads:

"A dedicated, strait-laced FBI agent and a street-smart CIA agent are part of a new, clandestine taskforce charged with solving and preventing domestic terrorism in and around New York City."

According to Variety, three new characters (two of them in lead roles) will be featured in the spin-off crime drama and will continue to play their parts as regulars. Any further information on the cast is still kept under wraps.

For the first time, the police procedural franchise will introduce a CIA angle. As expected, the task force will return to the usual New York office, leaving possibilities for potential future crossovers.

Fans can expect to see a brand new storyline as an iconic collaboration between the FBI and CBI officials takes place. This time we will reportedly witness action in foreign lands as the designated agents embark on a brand new thrilling journey.

CBS Studios' FBI: CIA will be the fourth installment in the franchise following the renewal of the original show in April 2024 - three more seasons will air very soon. FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International were also renewed by CBS while work is still in progress for the spin-offs of The Equalizer and The Neighbourhood.

Wolf is working alongside ex-CIA official David Chasteen as well as MCU screenwriter Nicole Perlman. According to reports, FBI: CIA will have a back door pilot in one of the upcoming episodes of the original show FBI (developed by Wolf Entertainment and Universal Network alongside CBS), where the new entries will be unraveled.
