“Can’t get rid of Katherine”: The Pitt star reveals if Dana Evans will return in Season 2

The first season of The Pitt has come to an end, and some characters’ futures at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital look uncertain. The Max medical drama realistically portrays the events of a 15-hour-long shift in the emergency room.

In the season finale, charge nurse Dana Evans, played by Katherine LaNasa, considered leaving the hospital after a violent attack by a patient. Ever since, fans have been worried about whether Dana will return in The Pitt Season 2.

Series star Noah Wyle and creator R. Scott Gemmill have now put the worry to rest by confirming that Dana will continue to be a part of the show. In an interview with TVLine, Wyle confirmed that Katherine would be seen in the second season and said:

“I can’t get rid of Katherine. Obviously, Dana is an important part [of this show].”

Dana Evans will return in The Pitt Season 2

In the interview, Noah Wyle added that while Dana is indeed coming back in The Pitt Season 2, the team needs to figure out a way to showcase why and how she decides to return to the hospital:

“But Dana choosing to come back — if she chooses to come back, and how she comes back, and what Dana is like having made the decision to come back, and what she’s going to allow this place to either do or not do to her going forward, becomes the stuff that, you know, is the grist for the mill.”

Series creator R. Scott Gemmill also talked about Dana's future on the show, revealing that she will have a changed attitude and will not tolerate any wrongdoing in Season 2:

“I think when she comes back, she’s going to have a bit of an attitude adjustment, though. She’ll be even less tolerant of bulls—t. She’s going to be much more protective of her flock.”

In The Pitt Season 1 Episode 9, Dana was punched by an angry patient named Doug. Still reeling from the trauma, she packed up her things in the finale and considered leaving the hospital for good. At the same time, she also contemplated filing a legal complaint against Doug.

However, Gemmill has stated that the next season will not go down that path, as the show does not want to depict any setting other than the hospital. The second season of the series is expected to premiere in January 2026.
