Referring to her boyfriend and fellow participant Horacio Gutierrez's elimination from the show, The Challenge 40 star Nurys Mateo opened up about the same. During her recent interview appearance with Entertainment Weekly on September 30, 2024, Nurys shared,
"I hope now ... we can let bygones be bygone. There was a lot of drama going on so I hope everything is good now. Aside from that, I'm just hoping that Horacio can come back now, or will come back, because he doesn't really want to."

Recalling one of the most "controversial" events from The Challenge 40, Nurys Mateo is now ready to move forward. She opened up about letting "bygones be bygones" and hoping for better things.
Fans must remember how multiple participants, including Nurys Mateo, Horacio Gutierrez, and others, accused the show makers of foul play. After that, the show producers arranged a Zoom video call to clarify things.
In the call that Horacio and Derrick were also part of, the producers played the "raw" and "unedited" footage of the elimination task, which cleared things up. There was a part where instructions were shared, and some players didn't pay attention, which caused confusion with one of the rules.
Following that, Horacio admitted Derrick had beaten him in the challenge. Referring to the incident, The Challenge star Nurys Mateo recently shared her thoughts during her appearance on Entertainment Weekly on September 30, 2024.
Nurys was eliminated from The Challenge 40's first challenge when she lost against Olivia Kaiser. Since then, she has been supporting Horacio on the show. After his elimination, Nurys pondered the possibility of returning to the show.
"I'm for sure still coming on The Challenge. I love The Challenge, everything about it. This is a dream for me. As long as they call, I will answer. I really would love to play with Horacio again so I really hope that he will come back at some point, but I think he's going to take a break for now," shared Nurys Mateo.
However, she also mentioned that, as of now, because Horacio is on "a break," he might not be returning anytime soon.
