Netflix’s newest medical drama, Breathless, has taken the world by storm since its release on August 30, 2024. The Spanish series revolves around the lives of doctors in the making at Joaquin Sorolla Hospital in Valencia, Spain, a public hospital.
The show doesn’t just focus on the lives of interns, residents, attendings, and doctors; it also sheds light on nurses' lives. As highlighted in the storyline, operations in a public hospital are different from working in a private one. The primary reason for these differences is budgetary cuts, which Biel, the show’s protagonist, realizes.
Biel's dream to fulfill his passion is off to a great start, although he and the other doctors find themselves in a pickle. The budding doctors are amid a hospital strike and must pick sides sooner or later.
Season 1 of the show delivered eight intense episodes filled with lives saved (and lost), breakthroughs, heartbreak, and romance. This has left fans pondering whether the series will have a second season.

Has Breathless been renewed for season 2?
According to multiple reports, Netflix has neither renewed nor canceled Breathless; there is no season 2 yet. Although the show’s viewership has gradually gained momentum since its release, whether it will proceed with season 2 or create a part 2 of season 1 has not been decided.
However, a silver lining exists amidst the uncertainty since Breathless Season 1 ended with several cliffhangers. This insinuates that the show may return to lay these curiosities to rest. However, in the past, Netflix has canceled several dramas after just one season.
Per Spoiler, the show’s creator, Carlos Montero, claimed the show is reportedly inspired by Grey's Anatomy, one of the longest-running medical drama TV shows. Speculations suggest that Breathless might follow suit since that series is still going strong with season 20.
What will Breathless Season 2 be about?
Season 1 of Breathless ended with unanswered questions about Jessica’s (played by Blanca Suarez) fate. The episode begins with Biel and the team rushing in to treat a suicidal patient amid the tension.
As the episode unravels, the patient attempts to swallow an entire packet of blades! Naturally, Jessica, while doing her rounds, intervenes and remedies the situation. Her actions leave the patient feeling disgruntled, resulting in a drastic turn of events: Jessica gets stabbed.
The episode ends with Biel and the rest of the gang rushing to her side as she bleeds out with a ragged breath. Should there be a season 2 of Breathless, it will certainly explore her fate and her attacker's. The series might uncover the aftermath of Patricia’s decision to opt for an experimental treatment.
