Channel 4’s hit dark comedy-drama series, Big Mood, is all set to return with a second season. The network has officially renewed the British show, which follows the lives of two best friends, Maggie and Eddie.
As Maggie struggles with bipolar disorder, and Eddie deals with mounting pressures of her career and relationships, their decade-long friendship is tested by circumstances. The show stars Bridgerton actress, Nicola Coughlan, and Years and Years actress, Lydia West, in the lead roles, who will be returning in season 2.
The first season, which aired in March and April 2024, ended on a cliffhanger with a massive misunderstanding between Maggie and Eddie that almost broke their friendship. The two have a new challenge to face in Big Mood season 2.
Channel 4 confirms Big Mood Season 2
Channel 4 officially announced the development of Big Mood season 2 on February 10, 2025. The network also teased what to expect from the next season, revealing it would take place a year after the events of the first season’s finale.
After staying away from each other for a year, Maggie and Eddie come face-to-face again when the latter returns to the town for a wedding. During their time apart, Eddie has befriended a spiritual healer named Whitney, who seems to have taken Maggie’s place in her life.
The new season will deal with whether Maggie can win her friend back, or their relationship will break forever. Nicola Coughlan and Lydia West have been confirmed to reprise their roles as Maggie and Eddie, respectively, in the second season.
In her official statement, Coughlan said she is delighted to continue being a part of the show:
“Deeply grateful to everyone who loves our mad, funny, sad show. It’s been one of the greatest joys of my life making it, and I’m beyond delighted that we get to come back and tell the next chapter of Maggie and Eddie’s story. Rats at the ready.”
West also expressed her excitement about returning to Big Mood season 2 and stated:
“So excited to reunite with my besties and work on series 2! I can’t wait to see the scripts and get back to the world of Eggie!”
The release date for the new season has not been revealed by Channel 4 yet. In the US, the show will likely stream on Tubi, where the first season premiered in April 2024.
Created by Camilla Whitehill, Big Mood has earned praise for its realistic portrayal of female friendships and mental health struggles. The show is also acclaimed for its writing and stellar performances.
Apart from Coughlan and West, the show’s first season starred Ukweli Roach, Eamon Farren, Luke Fetherston, Joanna Page, Niamh Cusack, Kate Fleetwood, Sally Phillips, David Bedella, Max Bennett, and Rebecca Lowman in pivotal roles.
All episodes of Big Mood season 1 are streaming on Tubi in the US and Canada. It is also streaming on Channel 4 in the UK.
