As fans are eagerly waiting for the second season of the Severance TV series, director Ben Stiller shares his thoughts on casting Adam Scott as the lead character, Mark Scout. He compares the actor's casting to Bryan Cranston’s career transformation, highlighting how both actors went from lesser-known roles to breakthrough performances.
Before diving into what exactly Stiller said, here's a brief overview of the gripping television series: Set shortly, Severance debuted on Apple TV+ in 2022 and revolves around Scott's Mark Scout. He's working in a mysterious and secretive company that follows a controversial procedure called "severance."
Through this surgical operation, the employees can't remember their personal life during work and also forget their work life when at home. This results in two separate identities of the employees, ultimately affecting them emotionally and psychologically.
Following its unique narrative, Severance quickly gained popularity, and part of its success goes to its lead actor, Adam Scott. The actor has played several roles throughout his career and has known Ben Stiller for almost ten years.
Interestingly, this isn't their first collaboration, as the two have previously worked on The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and are now working on the Apple TV+ series. During his interview with The New Yorker, Stiller mentioned Bryan Cranston’s success and compared it with Scott's transformation, saying, "That’s what I felt with this."
