MrBeast’s Beast Games might land in trouble as the reality game show is under investigation by authorities over an accident. According to a report by The Canadian Press, a worker was injured on the show's sets when a wooden piece fell on him on September 11, 2024.

The Ministry of Labour in Ontario is now investigating the case. The show, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video recently, was filmed in Toronto, Ontario. The reports come at a time when the show is already facing legal issues, as some contestants sued the makers for not providing appropriate facilities and wages.

Created and hosted by YouTuber MrBeast, Beast Games features 1,000 contestants who participate in various challenges to win the prize of $5 million. In their report on the conditions behind the scenes of the show earlier last week, Rolling Stone claimed that one crew member had been struck by a piece of wood.

Beast Games reportedly under investigation by Ontario’s Ministry of Labour

As per The Canadian Press, Ontario’s Ministry of Labour has officially opened the investigation on Beast Games over an industrial incident. Rolling Stone reported earlier that during the filming of the show,

“a six-foot by six-foot piece of the exterior of the tower fell on a crew member while the set was being packed away.”

The incident took place on September 11, 2024, on the show’s set, which replicated a miniature village in Toronto, Ontario. The extent of the injuries suffered by the worker has not been revealed yet.

Toronto police have also confirmed they were called to the sets after the incident, but they are not investigating the case as it is not criminal. On the other hand, the ministry has issued a ‘requirement’ notice to Blink 49 Studios and Manhattan Beach Studios, the injured worker’s employer companies.

Neither Amazon Prime Video nor MrBeast, whose real name is James Stephen Donaldson, has issued a statement on the matter. More details on the case will likely come out as the investigation continues.

Beast Games has already been sued by contestants over unsafe working conditions

Beast Games had sparked controversy even before its premiere as five contestants sued the producers for $100 million, citing unsafe working conditions in September 2024. The participants claimed they underwent mistreatment and sexual harassment on the sets of the show.

They further claimed to have been deprived of basic facilities like food, medication, and sleep during the filming. The lawsuit also mentioned that the contestants were not paid for working overtime on the game show.

In his defense, MrBeast said the allegations had been ‘blown out of proportion.’ Beast Games features 1,000 players, the largest number of contestants in any reality show. These participants compete in Squid Game-like challenges, which test their physical and mental strength, teamwork, and strategies.

The one who braces through all the challenges is crowned the winner and earns a cash prize of $5 million. The show premiered on Amazon Prime Video on December 19, 2024, and releases new episodes weekly.
