Ashoka Season 2 finally has its production wheels turning once again.

After a long period of guesswork, according to reports on Screen Rant, Season 2 is finally gearing up into action, with showrunner Dave Filoni verifying that planning for filming is currently in full swing.

The verification comes amid the ever-growing enthusiasm surrounding the future of Star Wars, particularly after the significant events in Season 1.

With members of the creative team deep in work, the second season promises not only new worlds but also a new direction.

Dave Filoni confirms filming is about to begin for Ashoka Season 2

During the Lucasfilm Animation panel at Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Japan, Dave Filoni finally came forward with an update: production for Ashoka Season 2 is all set to start.

While Filoni did not provide an entire roadmap for Season 2, he noted that Carrie Beck, Lucasfilm’s Vice President of Animation and Live-Action Development, is currently in the United Kingdom, overseeing the immediate preparations that need to be made.

This shift away from California's Volume stage to a much more classic filming location. Could this be a subtle hint at a stylistic return to Star Wars' more traditional cinematic origins?

Filoni making a comeback to the writer’s room has a chance to strengthen the continuity and creative uniformity that the series has upheld so far.

Meanwhile, the expected timeline for filming—supposedly commencing in mid-2025—lines up with Natasha Liu Bordizzo’s summer work schedule.

Although there’s still no official release date that has been put on the table, a late 2026 release does seem probable, bearing in mind the previous season’s production-to-release date.

Season 2 carries a slight touch of sadness. Ray Stevenson, who passed away in 2023, played the role of Baylan Skoll. Stevenson left an emptiness in the hearts of the Star Wars franchise.

His character will now be played by Rory McCann, best known for his portrayal of Sandor on Game of Thrones.

What’s Next for Ashoka and the Star Wars Timeline?

Season 2 of Ashoka is most likely to dive into the larger, cosmic elements— principally the puzzling World Between Worlds and the Mortis Gods.

With Filoni’s storytelling now moving forward the franchise’s future, Ashoka is placed as a foundation in the narrative connection between Return of the Jedi and First Order.

Ashoka's vital role in determining the Star Wars timeline and its future cannot be understated.

As the franchise continues to grow, Ashoka remains an important chapter, its second season now closer than it ever was before!
