Andrew Schulz is getting some unexpected help promoting his new Netflix stand-up special, Life, courtesy of Matt Damon. But instead of a glowing endorsement, Damon takes a more playful approach by roasting Schulz in a new promo.
The promo begins with Schulz sitting in a diner, enjoying a meal with his daughter. Out of nowhere, Matt Damon walks in and immediately starts messing with him.
"Cute baby,"
Damon remarks before joking,
"I didn't get the amber alert."
Schulz explains that he's celebrating his new stand-up special, but Damon isn't impressed. Instead, he fires back,
"What do you do, stand up there and grow a mustache?"
Damon's roasting as he won’t let up
Schulz’s special dives into his journey of using IVF to start a family, but Damon mostly seizes the opportunity to keep the jokes coming.
The back-and-forth between the two is filled with sharp quips, with Schulz eventually snapping,
"Do me a favor: don't watch the special. It's not for people like you."
But Damon isn’t done. He responds,
"The people like me? I'll watch your 'I'm Shooting Blanks' comedy special as much as I want to. I'll watch it twice, as a matter of fact. Where’s it playing?"
When Schulz hesitates, Damon presses further:
"I don’t want to tell you where the… is it playing? Netflix."
Then, in classic Damon fashion, he decides to embarrass Schulz even more by announcing to the entire diner:
"Hey everybody, everybody listen! Andrew Schulz has a comedy special about how his balls are full of oatmeal, and we’re all going to watch it!"
As it turns out, Matt Damon actually has a history with the Schulz family. He recalls living in an apartment above Schulz’s parents, Larry and Sandra, in New York. Schulz and his brother, Greg, were just kids back then, skateboarding around the building.
Years later, Damon ran into a mutual friend who mentioned knowing the Schulz family. When the name "Andrew Schulz" came up, Damon was surprised to learn that "Larry's boy" had become a highly successful stand-up comedian.
The promo is packed with hilarious moments, making it clear that Schulz and Damon have great comedic chemistry. While the teasing is relentless, it’s all in good fun.
He shares funny and humbling stories about their experience with IVF before welcoming their daughter, Shiloh Jean, in February 2024.
"One of the best parts of this tour was hearing from people who saw my show and later messaged me to say they tried IVF and were successful,"
Schulz told.
"They’d tell me they got pregnant and that my show helped them feel less ashamed about choosing IVF. I hope people feel the same way after watching the special."
Schulz's Life promises to be an entertaining deep dive into his personal experiences with fatherhood, IVF, and everything in between.
