“An absolute blast”: Jennifer Nettles teases an explosive storyline for Maryanne in The Bondsman Season 2

Prime Video’s The Bondsman has become the talk of the town due to its genre-bending narrative, which combines horror, action, and musical elements. The show stars Kevin Bacon as Hub Halloran, a bounty hunter who is resurrected from the dead to hunt down demons who have escaped hell.

Meanwhile, he has some personal issues to sort out as he reconnects with his ex-wife, Maryanne Dice, played by Jennifer Nettles. At the end of the first season, Maryanne is possessed by the demon Lilith, who forces Hub to serve her.

In an interview with Collider, Maryanne said she is excited about how Maryanne’s storyline will move forward in The Bondsman Season 2, which has yet to be announced by Prime Video. The actress said her character is going to have a blast in the potential second season:

“It was so much fun for Maryanne to explore some of the underworld, if you will. I feel like where it can go is what I’m even more excited about, so I love that they’ve left us open and set us up for a Season 2, hopefully, knock-on wood. For Maryanne, I think that is going to be an absolute blast. High stakes, baby. High stakes.”

Jennifer Nettles talks about her role in The Bondsman

Jennifer Nettles’s casting in The Bondsman was announced in January 2024. In her interview, the actress talked about why she chose to take up the project, citing the strong storyline as one of the reasons:

“There were a number of things that were and are appealing, but what I first found appealing was the script. I loved it. For me, the writing jumped off the page.”

Other factors that contributed to Nettles’s interest in the show were working alongside Kevin Bacon and getting to write songs, as the actress is an accomplished country musician in real life. She said:

“Then, of course, Kevin Bacon being attached to it was thrilling, above all else. I found those two pieces very exciting. And then, throw in the bonus of, organically within the story, our characters are musicians, and we were able to write music for the show for our characters.”

Nettles’s portrayal of the proud and strong-headed Maryanne has been loved by the audience. Apart from The Bondsman, she is known for playing Aimee-Leigh Gemstone in HBO’s The Righteous Gemstones. Her other acting credits include the films Harriet and The Exorcist: Believer.

The Bondsman premiered on April 3, 2025, and has yet to be renewed for a second season. However, the series creators have already expressed their interest in continuing the show, and the positive reception by the audience might convince Prime Video to greenlit another installment.
