Aimee Lou Wood breaks silence on why she doesn’t have an American accent in The White Lotus Season 3

English actress, Aimee Lou Wood is among the new cast ensemble for HBO's The White Lotus Season 3, playing the character of Chelsea, Walton Goggins' Rick's young girlfriend.

Wood, originally from Stockport, Greater Manchester, does not have an American accent on the show like the other guests. In a recent interview with The Sun, she talked about how creator, Mike White wanted her to have her original accent on the show:

“I can do an American accent. But Mike just wanted my Manchester one,”

In another interview with ELLE, she opened up on White's creative choice for Chelsea's accent in The White Lotus Season 3:

“He just didn’t see why she needed to be American and why we needed to add that extra layer of distance between me and her. So he was like, ‘Let’s just make her from Manchester.’ And I was like, ‘Great.’ And it worked. But it was so funny because everyone keeps being like, ‘So you couldn’t do the American accent.’ And now I’m like, ‘I need to correct this guys! I can do an American accent! I swear!'”

Wood's Chelsea is also from Manchester in The White Lotus Season 3

After her breakthrough role as Aimee Gibbs in Netflix's Sex Education, Wood joined the Season 3 ensemble as Chelsea, a yoga teacher from Manchester. She is on a week-long vacation in the titular resort in Thailand with her boyfriend Rick, who has an ulterior motive for the place.

Chelsea does her best to ask her boyfriend what is bothering her and tries to enjoy a good week with him.

As mentioned earlier, Wood embraces her Manchester accent on the show, and many fans wondered why her character is also based in Manchester. Talking about this peculiar commonality that she shares with her character, Wood notes (via The Sun):

“It’s the teeth! No Americans have my teeth. I think that genuinely is one of the things,”

After being conscious about her teeth all her life, Wood finally revealed that she now feels confident in them, and they often become a part of her character quirk.

Fans have been liking her character's sunshine personality and her chemistry with Goggins' Rick, which sure is an unlikely pairing but works well in The White Lotus Season 3.
