Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch recently shared a positive update about the BBC show that can make the show’s fans giddy with joy.
Led by Benedict Cumberbatch, the series offered a modern revision of the classic Arthur Conan Doyle detective novels. It used Cumberbatch’s charisma to its advantage and explored the elusive detective’s mind. While a crime mystery series, it also infused bits of British humor that worked because of Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman’s chemistry. After its premiere in 2011, the show received a cult following. So, it is fair for the fans to want another season.
Luckily, Cumberbatch recently shared his thoughts about another season while speaking with Variety. When asked about what would persuade him to work in another season, he jokingly said:
“A lot of money!”
However, he understands how much his fans love the show. So, he conveyed his genuine response on how or when he would return to another potential season of the show. Here’s what he said:
“It would take it to be better than it ever was. You leave them or yourselves wanting more. There’s always that itch to scratch, but I think it would have to be the superlative version of what we’ve already achieved.”
Will there be another season of BBC’s Sherlock? Here’s what we know about this Benedict Cumberbatch show

BBC’s Sherlock gained a lot of popularity upon its premiere in 2011. Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat, who created the show, cast Benedict Cumberbatch in the role of Sherlock and Martin Freeman as his companion, Dr. Watson. Their collaboration became a multiple-Emmy-winning affair, with over nine awards under its belt. So, it’s no surprise that its fans still hold on to the hope of its return.
However, they were left high and dry since the show’s latest episode, which aired in 2017. Since then, the stars moved on to different projects and built a reputation through their later performances. Still, Sue Virtue, one of the show’s producers, shared his thoughts about Sherlock’s potential future arc:
“We love that show and there is a future for it. One day. Maybe. If everyone wants to do it. I’ve still got the set in storage somewhere, which is probably rotten, to be honest with you. It’s just getting everybody aligned, it’s getting the actors to want to do it.”
So, the executives will need to get all the actors aligned for Sherlock’s probable new season.
After Sherlock, Cumberbatch became MCU’s Doctor Strange and received two Academy Award nominations for his performances in The Imitation Game and The Power of The Dog. Freeman became The Hobbit’s Bilbo Baggins and starred in FX’s Emmy-nominated Fargo. Andrew Scott, who played mysterious villain Jim Moriarty, went on to bag roles in projects like Spectre and All of Us Strangers.
So, their schedules need to fall in line with the plans of a supposed update of the series.
