Adolescence was released on Netflix less than a month ago and has already ranked as the fourth most streamed show on the platform surpassing all Bridgerton series. The limited series has over 114.5 million views and currently ranks at the fourth position of Netflix's most streamed English shows.
The first and third seasons of Bridgerton have 113.3 million and 106 million views respectively, which was quite hard to beat. The Queen's Gambit ranks in between these two Bridgerton seasons at sixth place. It was not easy to surpass the views acquired by Bridgerton, but Adolescence has done that in less than a month.
Adolescence's Performance on Netflix
To break it down, Adolescence was released on Netflix on March 13, 2025 and in the second week of April, it is ranked at second place in the UK and USA and first place globally, surpassing Pulse and Devil May Cry. It is the fourth most streamed English show on Netflix. It has received praise from all over the world as it tells a powerful story that reflects the reality of most young boys. With the show being watched so widely, it is hoped that the show's message will reach people and make the world a better place.
The Netflix limited series follows the story of Jamie Miller, a thirteen-year-old teenager suspected to be the murderer of his classmate, Katie Leonard. Played by Owen Cooper, Jamie is questioned in the presence of his father, as Jamie is a minor. Jamie pleads not guilty despite there being footage of him murdering Katie. He is remanded in custody and kept at a restricted facility.
A key part of the story is him getting analyzed by forensic psychologist, Briony Ariston. Through her analysis, we can see how cyber-bullying and incel culture on the internet has affected Jamie and consequently shaped his views about women. A year after his arrest, Jamie pleads guilty to murder after having the year to think and reflect on his actions.
The show sheds light on how bullying and lack of self-confidence in young boys are potentially ruining their lives. It is a call to all parents to do better and be more attentive. Adolescence has been made available to stream in secondary schools in the U.K. for educational purposes, taking a step towards the betterment of children.
Bridgerton and its spin-off Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story are extremely popular shows on Netflix. Created by Chris Van Dusen for Netflix, Bridgerton is a historical fiction drama set in the Regency era, based on the book series by Julia Quinn. It follows the Bridgerton family's journey through the marriage season. The family belongs to the nobility and its members struggle with finding love, marrying the right person, and abiding by societal norms.
While Bridgerton has done exceptionally well for its genre with millions of views, Adolescence has managed to surpass it. Irrespective of which show it surpasses, viewers hope to see more shows like Adolescence.
