The synopsis of A Hollywood Tragedy, per Peacock, reads:
"On October 28th, 2023, the news that actor Matthew Perry was found dead at home in Los Angeles shocked the world. In his memoir, "Friends, Lovers, and The Big Terrible Thing,” he had told his story of battling addiction, and when ketamine was found in his system, it was thought by many that he had died from an overdose. Nearly a year later, a bombshell announcement from prosecutors: five people, including Perry's live-in personal assistant, two medical doctors, and an alleged Hollywood drug dealer known as "the Ketamine Queen" were charged with conspiracy to illegally provide Perry with ketamine. The special explores the case as two of the defendants, who have pleaded not guilty, await trial."
The documentary will not only leave details of the tragedy but will also take us back in time to Perry's moments on the set. His contribution to Friends will reportedly be portrayed through old clips from NBC's hit sitcom that premiered in 1994.
A Hollywood Tragedy will reportedly leave glimpses of the late star's struggle with substance use and how he tried to balance his personal life with his professional career—especially at the peak of fame. According to reports, Perry's initial cause of death was considered to be a result of Ketamine in his bloodstream.
But the tables turned with a breakthrough in an investigation last year after five individuals were convicted in connection with the passing of Matthew Perry. According to reports, Hollywood insiders will also play a major role in narrating the story alongside statements from law enforcement officials—Morgan Fairchild (who was cast as Perry aka Chandler's mother in Friends) will also leave insights on the case.
As per statements from U.S. Attorney, Martin Estrada, Ketamine was the cause of Matthew Perry's untimely passing. She further added that three of the accused have already pleaded guilty to their crimes thereby promising further co-operation on the case while the other two are yet to open up.
