As per the latest reports, Investigation Discovery will soon be back with another chilling case, and this time the subject is an officer with the Boston Police Department, John O'Keefe, who was found lying 'dead in the snow' following an eventful night. The prime suspect in the case is Karen Read, O'Keefe's girlfriend, and currently she faces murder charges.
Though the case went into mistrial last year owing to complications in the timeline of the murder, the latest reports have revealed that there is another trial scheduled for April 2025, per Deadline. The plea for dropping the charges against Karen Read is also currently on hold by order of the Supreme Judicial Court.
As the long-running case keeps drawing more media attention, ID comes up with fresh news on a docuseries that will reportedly premiere this March, covering the trial of Boston native Karen Read. The official synopsis of A Body in the Snow: The Trial of Karen Read, per IMDb, reads:
"On a cold January morning in a sleepy suburb outside of the city, a local police officer named John O'Keefe was found dead on a fellow officer's front lawn."
ID to release new docuseries on the death of John O'Keefe and Karen Read's murder trial
The upcoming docuseries on ID, A Body in the Snow: The Trial of Karen Read, will explore harrowing details of the case whose final verdict has been long overdue. The show will premiere on March 17, 2025, with three episodes, each airing till March 19, per Deadline, and viewers can stream them on Max.
As reported by Dateline: NBC, Boston Police officer John O'Keefe went missing on the night of January 28, 2022, after he was dropped at a friend's party by his girlfriend Karen Read. The next morning, John was found lying dead at the same place where he was last seen.
Per reports, he never even appeared at the party he was supposed to that night. The investigation on the case began, and after putting all the pieces of the puzzle together, Massachusetts State Police found Karen Read guilty of backing her vehicle into her boyfriend while she was in an intoxicated state.
Consequently, she was charged with second-degree murder and motor vehicle manslaughter (DUI). According to reports, ID said in an announcement on Monday, February 2:
"As Read and her legal team prepare for a retrial, conspiracies, questions and emotions swirl around the truth."
Terry Dunn Meurer is working on the much-anticipated ID true-crime show, per The Hollywood Reporter. Meurer has previously worked on documenting intense, high-profile cases on Unsolved Mysteries. The series will further dive into John O'Keefe's murder investigation, thereby providing insights as Karen Read awaits a retrial this April.
