Paramount+ announced that 1923 Season 2 has broken a major streaming record. Upon its premiere on February 23, 2025, the show averaged 5.4 million global views on Paramount+, becoming the most-watched premiere episode in the history of the streaming platform.

The series’ success can be attributed to its gripping storyline, stellar cast, and the Yellowstone brand name. The show is set around a century before the events of the original series and revolves around an earlier generation of the Dutton family.

1923 Season 2 records the most-watched premiere on Paramount+

As per Deadline, the 1923 Season 2 premiere garnered 5.4 million views, surpassing all expectations. In comparison, the first season’s pilot, which debuted in December 2022, averaged 2.2 million global views. This means there has been a 146% increase in views between the first and the second installment.

Paramount+ released this internal data based on various channels where the premiere was available to stream, including Amazon and Roku. The second season has so far been labeled as the final installment of the show, and it remains to be seen if the record-breaking success prompts Paramount+ to continue the show for another season.

The series tells the story of Cara and Jacob Dutton, a couple who own the Yellowstone ranch and have to face various challenges in keeping their hold on the land, including the Great Depression, Prohibition, and extreme winters.

1923 season 2 episode 1 showcases the Duttons struggling to survive a harsh winter while food is running low. Amid the troubles, Cara writes to Spencer and begs him to return home. Meanwhile, Banner Creighton works with Donald Whitfield, and the two want control of the Duttons’ land at any cost.

At the same time, Spencer is still stuck at sea and Alex is planning her escape from England. On the other hand, Teonna is on the run with Father Renaud trying to hunt her down. To add to the Duttons’ troubles, a hungry lion arrives on their land, which further raises the stakes in the premiere episode.
