Shark Tank Australia's Jane Lu shared an Instagram clip on February 21, 2025, stating the "key to success." The Lazy CEO Podcast host revealed that we should never "negotiate" with ourselves.

Jane Lu mentioned that even in "those days" when we felt like hitting the snooze button or skipping a workout, we should not "negotiate." The Showpo founder shared her "key" to success: "to do it" anyway.

"The key to success is to never negotiate with yourself. Don't negotiate with your weakness. Don't negotiate with your self doubt. We all have those days where we want to snooze or skip a workout or procrastinate work or we look at a goal, whether it's in business or in life, and whether it's because the progress hasn't been what you wanted so far or the journey ahead just seems too far and too scary, the key to success is to just do it anyway."

The Instagram reel featuring Jane Lu stated it was not about feeling "motivated." According to the Shark Tank mentor, success is about "showing up" when we don't want to. She talked about getting up even when it's "hard" and even when "everything" inside you refuses.

"You push through. That's how you build discipline. That's how you stay consistent, and that's how you win in the long run. Stop negotiating with your weaknesses and start negotiating with your goals."

The Lazy CEO podcast host mentioned that when we stop our feelings from "calling the shots," it delivers "amazing" results.

In another Instagram clip shared on October 5, 2023, the Shark Tank mentor talked about how she never thought about being on the reality show as a Shark. The female judge recalled how she immigrated to Australia at age eight and knew not a single word of the English language. Being a foreigner, she felt "different" during her school days.

"I was the only foreigner in my entire school, and I always felt different. Like many immigrant kids, there was just this expectation for you to do well at school. Get the right uni degree, get a good job, and I did. I smoked school and uni. I got an awesome corporate job, but then when I had actually achieved everything that I'd been working so hard for, I realized that I wasn't happy, and it wasn't for me."

Not feeling "happy," Shark Tank's mentor decided to start her business. She left her job and put everything into the new business to pursue that dream. Initially, she was scared to break the news to her parents about leaving her job to start the business. Hence, the female entrepreneur continued to "pretend" to go to work.

Unfortunately, that business didn't succeed. As a result, she lost money, which shattered her "pride." During the global financial crisis, she even thought about getting another job. However, since no one was hiring, she started another business.

"So now, I'm still putting my suit every day, pretending to go to my corporate job while secretly working on my new business. A week later, we made our first sale. A few months later, we opened our first store. Then we went viral on Facebook. Then I hired my first staff, and then I got my first office, and then my first warehouse."

As of 2025, 13 years later, her brand, Showpo has "millions of happy customers" across the globe. When she received the phone call about an opportunity to get on her favorite TV Show, Shark Tank, she never thought "all of that" could happen to her.
