Back in 2006, Seemona Sumasar, a mother to her daughter Chiara, was working day and night on her newly opened franchise of the food-chain Golden Krust. She was unaware of the criminal minds around her, until one of them, Jerry Ramattan, entered her life as her lover.

As described by Sumasar in the Netflix series, Ramrattan was the most caring man she had met, and even her family was happy. However, after knowing that he had children and was married, Sumasar broke up with Jerry Ramrattan.

Following their break up Ramrattan sexually assaulted his ex-girlfriend in 2009, as an act of retaliation. Sumasar filed a complaint against him, but Ramrattan wasn't kept in prison for long. Soon after he was granted bail, the man crafted another evil plan to destroy Seemona Sumasar's life.

He arranged fake victims against Sumasar and even set up fake evidence by leaving a bullet at one location to support the fake armed robbery. As revealed in Worst Ex Ever, the police received complaints from these fake victims, who initially looked honest.

As a result, Seemona Sumasar was wrongly arrested in 2010 over crimes that never happened and spent months inside the Nassau County Correctional Center. Due to her imprisonment, Sumasar lost her business and was worried about her daughter's future.

However, her life took a drastic turn when the police received a tip claiming that it was Jerry Ramrattan who framed Seemona Sumasar and was impersonating an NYPD officer.

After Seemona was free from the charges, a lawsuit against Jerry Ramrattan began in 2012. Following a thorough investigation, Ramrattan's crimes finally came to light as he was declared guilty of felony charges, conspiracy, raping his ex-girlfriend, and trying to mislead the police.

Following the lawsuit, Jerry Ramrattan was punished with 32 years in jail, with a possibility of parole in 2032. The Worst Ex Ever episode also featured a former friend of Ramrattan, revealing that this man had been planning to trouble Seemona since their breakup.

Seemona Sumasar's seven months in jail didn't just cause financial losses but also left her daughter Chiara depressed. She was quite young and kept asking about her mother.

As seen in the Netflix true-crime series, her relatives would tell Chiara that Seemona would come out soon and she's okay.

Now that Sumasar was out of the prison in December 2010, she decided to seek justice against the injustice she suffered over Ramrattan's crimes and filed a case against Detective Charles and the Nassau County.

In 2017, Seemona Sumasar received $2 million from the County in settlement of the damages and emotional pain she endured.

While talking about the case in the Worst Ex Ever episode, Sumasar's aunt said:

"How evil someone can be to do something like this? She has a kid and she was in jail for so long... He was out... having time of his life... Just pure evil."

While Seemona was happy about the truth, she was disappointed about how her case was initially handled. Her attorney Anthony Grandinette also claimed that the police knew from the beginning that Ramrattan was involved, but chose to put Sumasar behind bars.

The last minutes of the second episode shared that the Nassau County Police declined to be interviewed about this case.
