Running Point Season 1 dropped on Netflix on February 27, 2025, and featured a star-studded cast, including a surprise cameo of a Home Alone star. Following the success of Season 1, Netflix's original sports comedy-drama has been renewed for Season 2. Created by the trio Elaine Ko, Mindy Kaling, Ike Brainholz, and David Stassen, the series features Kate Hudson (her television debut as a lead for a comedy series) as Isla Gordon, a carefree woman in her thirties.

After her brother's arrest due to a drug scandal, Isla Gordon takes charge of her family's pro basketball team as president. The series features Brenda Song as Ali Lee, Drew Tarver as Sandy Gordon, Fabrizio Guido as Jackie Moreno, Scott MacArthur as Ness Gordon, and Chet Hanks as Travis Bugg, among others.

However, viewers were quite shocked to see Macaulay Culkin in the Running Point Season 1 Episode 9 titled "The Playoffs." Culkin, well known for his role as Kevin McCallister in the classic holiday movie Home Alone, made his surprise cameo in the sports drama comedy Netflix series. As per the IMDb credits, Culkin was tagged as an unnamed "Angry Fan," thus making it clear that he is not a part of the main or supporting cast. For the unversed, Culkin is engaged to Brenda Song, who plays Ali Lee in Running Point.

Even though Culkin rose to fame as a successful child artist in the 1990s, he beautifully transitioned himself into a dedicated and hardworking actor. Some of his notable projects include Changeland, American Horror Story, and Entergalactic (voice).

Here's what we know about Culkin's character in Running Point Season 1

Macaulay Culkin played the role of an "angry fan" who had come to watch the playoffs. When Sandy Gordon, CFO of the Los Angeles Waves, interrupted the playoffs announcement, which stated Billie Eilish would be singing the national anthem, with a disappointed look, Culkin inquired,

"Where is Billie Eilish?"

As Sandy went on bragging about his dating life with Charlie, Culkin, aka the Angry Fan, said,

"No one cares, where's Billie?"

All this discouragement from the crowd did not stop Sandy, who began to sing Taylor Swift's "Love Story" for Charlie (he went completely out of tune, striking random chords on the guitar). Culkin, disappointed with the entire fiasco, uttered,

"At least sing Billie Eilish."

However, Charlie and Sandy are reunited by the end of his disastrous yet loving performance, and they share a kiss. Meanwhile, Culkin, aka the angry fan, finally smiled and cheered for the couple.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Brenda Song, who plays Ali Lee in Running Point, is Culkin's fiance. She shared how he landed the role in the series. Song told,

"He pitched himself. It was meant to be just him in the back of a scene as an Easter egg for us. He was on set and joking about how he wanted to be thrown into the audience- not say anything, just be in the background. And then, of course, it slowly snowballed."

Even though his cameo was initially cast as a silent audience member at the playoffs, he eventually landed the role of an angry and enthusiastic fan obsessed with Billie Eilish. As Running Point is returning for a second season, Culkin might be back as a cameo for the upcoming season, especially as his fiance, Brenda Song, plays a major role in it.
