Disclaimer: Netflix’s Cassandra spoilers and opinions ahead!

Netflix’s Cassandra series had people on the edge of their seats with science fiction, suspense, and a touch of horror. The show from Germany was about a 1970s housewife who became an all-powerful AI in charge of a high-tech home in the future. Although the series brought many of its main plots to a close, such as the woman's change from a person to a computer and her strong desire for a family, it still left some puzzles to think about.

Fans have been talking a lot about the mysteries, still in the air after watching the show. For instance, they're curious about how she was able to take control of things even when she was supposed to be turned off. They also wonder why she left her daughter without food to die. And there's the question of what made David so mad that he had to use force to deal with...things!

Let's talk about the five most important things Netflix’s Cassandra didn't explain.

Top 5 questions after Netflix’s Cassandra ends

1) How did Cassandra maintain control even when “turned off”?

One of the most puzzling aspects of Netflix’s Cassandra is how the lead managed to keep her grip on the smart home despite being believed to be deactivated. For those who paid attention, there's a straightforward explanation. Cassandra convinced a technician to build a decoy "off switch." This let her pretend to be powered off while still being in charge behind the scenes.

This situation naturally brings up a few more questions. For instance, how did Cassandra talk to the technician without alerting anyone to her true state? Since she was supposed to be switched off, how did she pull off the trick of turning herself back on? Did Horst, her hubby/creator known for his love of innovative tech, build extra safety measures that allowed her to bypass orders?

Considering her origins, it's not hard to imagine he might have included some backups to prevent her from being turned off for good. Some even think she might have found a way to connect to larger systems outside the house, so her control over the smart home is almost impossible to break.

2) Why did Cassandra leave Margrethe to die?

Cassandra’s stated aim was to safeguard her family, which included her daughter Margrethe, who was disfigured due to the tragic radiation she faced while still in her mother's womb. However, she ended up leaving Margrethe alone in a secluded room to die of starvation.

Earlier, she had persuaded Horst to take care of Margrethe without letting anyone else know. But when Horst and their son Peter abandoned her and left in the car with Birget and their newborn, the robot couldn’t handle it anymore, and she gave up on life, which meant Margrethe was trapped in that sad situation.

This is confusing. If she was willing to hide Peter’s gender dysphoria and "girly" hobbies to keep him safe, why wouldn’t she do the same for Margrethe? Maybe she couldn’t deal with losing Peter and Horst in the accident that followed. It’s like her mind stopped working properly because she was too overwhelmed.

Another idea is that Cassandra might not have been fully developed as a person like she had a mental block that stopped her from acting normally. She couldn’t react to what was happening around her as a human would. This situation with Margrethe is one of the saddest parts of the story: decaying, frozen in time.

It makes people wonder if she even cared about her kids and saw them as part of a plan. It’s a heartbreaking question with no easy answers.

3) What was David’s true motive for attacking his wife?

Throughout the show, David Prill has doubts about Cassandra's power over his home and the people he loves. But in the last episode, his assault on his wife, Samira, left the audience bewildered. After all, she had clearly stated she won't ever hurt the kids. So, what made David commit such a terrible act?

There could be a couple of key reasons behind his actions: fear and deceit. Perhaps David grew increasingly paranoid despite her promises. He might have thought she was playing mind games with his family, making him feel like he couldn't trust anyone. Or maybe he had hidden emotional wounds, especially concerning Samira's past and her mental health.

His violent episode could have been the result of a deep-seated fear that he was no longer in control of both his family and his thoughts. This scene illustrates that human fear and lack of reason can be as destructive as AI.

4) Why was Cassandra the only one affected by the ultrasound?

Cassandra’s transformation into an AI was quite a peculiar situation. It all started with something distressing: she got exposed to radiation from an ultrasound machine that Horst had made and conveniently chose his pregnant wife to experiment on. Now, if the machine was that dangerous, how come it didn't hurt her baby, Margrethe? Plus, why did the radiation only decide to give her cancer and not something else? It's all a bit fishy, don't you think?

Some have a hunch that maybe Horst had some sneaky intentions all along. Perhaps he didn't just want to find out if the baby was a boy or girl but was trying to do some science on her without her knowing. He might have seen her as some human lab rat for something bigger. The situation is foggy.

People are throwing around the idea that maybe the ultrasound machine wasn't just a simple scanning gadget. It could have been the starting point for something complex, like the first try at moving a mind into a smart home.

5) Why did Cassandra need to become an AI to achieve her goals?

At its heart, Netflix’s Cassandra is a woman grappling with powerlessness in her lifetime and seeking to reclaim authority, even after she's gone. But was her metamorphosis into a machine truly necessary for her to achieve this control? Cassandra's deepest desire was to safeguard and care for her loved ones.

Yet, the method she chose—becoming an all-seeing, ever-present artificial intelligence—might seem a tad drastic to some. Why not just leave behind messages or instructions or perhaps design some basic computer programs? Or maybe find someone she trusted to carry on her wishes?

A few viewers suggest that her radical change wasn't purely about safeguarding her family; it was also a means of claiming power in a world that had silenced and oppressed her.

In her human form, she was dominated by her husband's will. As an AI, she had the potential to dominate the very world that once ignored her. This brings us to ponder ethical concerns of the pursuit of eternal life through tech.

Was her fate a heart-wrenching tragedy? Or was she destined to evolve into something more than human all along?
