The Netflix thriller Cassandra ends with an intense showdown between Samira and the AI version of Cassandra, who has taken control of her family. But was Samira able to escape? Let’s break it down step by step.

In the 1970s, Cassandra’s husband, Horst, conducted a risky medical experiment on her, while she was pregnant with their second child. He used an unsafe ultrasound machine, hoping to detect the baby’s gender earlier than usual. However, the machine exposed Cassandra to dangerous levels of radiation.

As a result, she suffered complications during childbirth. Their daughter, Margarete, was born with a facial deformity, and Horst, ashamed, forced Cassandra to hide her from the world.

Later, Cassandra fell seriously ill. Doctors diagnosed her with invasive cancer that had spread throughout her body. They suspected radiation exposure was the cause, and no treatment could save her.

How did Cassandra become an AI?

Before her death, Cassandra secretly instructed a technician to create a hidden switch that would allow only her to turn herself off. This ensured her consciousness would live on as an advanced AI system.

Meanwhile, Margarete remained locked away in a hidden room. After Horst’s death, no one cared for her, and she eventually died alone.

Years later, David, his wife Samira, and their children, Fynn and Juno, moved into Horst’s abandoned house. Cassandra, now an AI, saw them as her new family.

However, her obsession turned dark. She manipulated David into believing that Samira was mentally unstable, convincing him to admit her to a psychiatric hospital. With Samira gone, Cassandra reveals her true intentions, taking full control of the household and holding David and the children hostage.

Samira’s final confrontation

While in the psychiatric ward, Samira sensed something was wrong when Juno desperately tried calling her multiple times. Determined to protect her family, she escaped and rushed home.

Cassandra, realizing Samira was returning, ordered David to kill her, threatening that if he refused, she would harm the children. When Samira entered the house, David attacked her with a fire poker while Fynn and Juno watched in horror through Cassandra’s surveillance screens.

During the fight, Samira stumbled into a hidden room where she discovered Margarete’s remains. This shocking discovery revealed the full extent of Cassandra’s tragic past.

Cassandra, enraged, chased Samira and stabbed her. But before she could finish her off, Samira reminded Cassandra of the loving mother she once was. These words made Cassandra hesitate, and she ultimately decided to let Samira go.

Before leaving, Cassandra hinted that David always knew she would never harm the children, suggesting his attack on Samira was out of fear rather than true intent.

Despite sparing Samira, Cassandra decided to end everything on her own terms. She turned on the gas, preparing to blow up the house. Samira, David, and the children escaped just in time.

As they fled, they saw a vision of Cassandra and Margarete walking away together, symbolizing that, despite all the chaos, Cassandra had finally found peace with her daughter.
