NCIS: Sydney Season 2 has ended after ten thrilling episodes. A spin-off to NCIS, the show takes the franchise to an international level as special agents of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service team up with the Australian Federal Police to investigate crimes related to the American military.
The show also delves into the personal lives and relationships of the agents, which makes it even more engaging. Now that the second season has finished airing, audiences are eagerly waiting for updates on NCIS: Sydney Season 3.
Fortunately, the show has already been renewed for a third installment. Considering the popularity of police procedural drama, CBS announced its continuation for another season in February 2025.
The renewal status of NCIS: Sydney Season 3
NCIS: Sydney Season 3 was confirmed to be in development back in February 2025, while the second season was still on-air. The NCIS franchise has turned out to be a major success for the network, and CBS continues to showcase faith in it with early renewals of spin-offs like NCIS: Sydney and NCIS: Origins.
The upcoming season began filming in February this year. At the time, series creator and showrunner Morgan O'Neill released a statement teasing more action in the next chapter and said:
“With two seasons under our belt, we are looking forward to upping the ante and bringing even more fun-filled, high-octane action from our incredible NCIS: Sydney team.”
The potential release date of NCIS: Sydney Season 3
As of now, CBS has not announced a premiere date for the next season. While the mothership NCIS series usually debuts in the Fall, Sydney has so far followed an irregular schedule, with the first season coming out in November 2023 and the sophomore installment releasing in February 2025. Since the third season has already begun filming, we can expect it to premiere by the end of 2025 or by early 2026.
The potential storyline of NCIS: Sydney Season 3
In the season 2 finale, the identity of the mastermind was revealed, confirming who had been causing issues for the team all this time. The next season will likely build up on this storyline, showcasing how it impacts the team.
Meanwhile, in an interview with TVInsider, Morgan O'Neill has disclosed that a new character will be introduced in the future, who will shake up the relationship between DeShawn and Evie:
“When two people really vibe with each other, as Evie and DeShawn clearly do, the one thing that will almost certainly cause something to flare up is to insert, let’s say, a third person into that dynamic, and see what happens as a result.”
“So, without giving too much away, that relationship between Evie and DeShawn will be tested by the arrival of another character in Season 3 who will really set the cat amongst the pigeons.”
O'Neill also teased that the upcoming season would be even bigger and better than Season 2:
“Anything I say is going to be a little bit too leading, but I promise you, from all the way down here, Season 3 is going to be way bigger than Season 2.”
As for the cast, CBS has not officially confirmed any actors. However, based on the storyline, the main cast members are expected to return, including Olivia Swann as Michelle Mackey, Sean Sagar as DeShawn Jackson, Todd Lasance as Sergeant Jim "JD" Dempsey, Mavournee Hazel as Bluebird "Blue" Gleeson, Tuuli Narkle as Constable Evie Cooper, and William McInnes as Roy "Rosie" Penrose.
